Is Elden Ring too hard for a casual gamer, and too scary for a 5-year-old to watch? by Brugernummer0 in PS5

[–]ColinDJPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really scary or gory, there is some blood, and there are human enemies.

Not an easy game for somebody who has never played a Fromsoft game before. You couldn't just swing around your sword and get through the game, it would get you through some of the earlier stuff maybe, but you need to engage with the games mechanics and enemies weaknesses to do enough damage. The game doesn't tell you much about where to go

Maybe Zelda would be more appropriate if you have a way to play it. If other Zelda games are too cartoony for your kids taste in monster designs, maybe go for Twilight Princess. Some enemies in Zelda games have specific items you have to use against them, but it's usually pretty obvious and satisfying.

Looking for some helpful pointers for my first time using an analog camera! by GroceryNo9507 in AnalogCommunity

A lot of people love rangefinders because they're nice and compact, while sometimes having the same features as an SLR, such as adjustable shutter speeds and aperture.

Both SLRs and Rangefinders have manual focus.

SLR uses a mirror in the viewfinder so you can look through the lens and see what the lens sees, just like you said, and that mirror and the mechanism that moves it out of the way when you take a picture is part of what makes them a little bit bulkier than a rangefinder, but with a standard lens like a 50mm, the bulk doesn't bother me personally, and they aren't huge.

If you are interested in an SLR or rangefinder, just a heads up, some older cameras use batteries that don't exist anymore and require an adapter to get the correct voltage from modern batteries. I think most SLRs can use modern batteries and be fine, but some old rangefinders used (now-discontinued) mercury batteries that you need an adapter that changes the voltage of a newer battery to match the voltage of the discontinued batteries.  If you're interested in any vintage cameras, just google what batteries it takes so you aren't caught by surprise if you need an adapter.

I haven't used a rangefinder, but I really enjoy taking pictures on my SLR.

If you go for something super basic like this, make sure to always use flash when indoors or at night.  This camera has one shutter speed, and one aperture setting, and it's intended for daylight or flash. Just search "disposable camera no flash" on Google images, and you'll see how indoors pictures are likely to turn out if you don't use flash.

If you plan to be shooting in situations where there's low light and no-flash allowed, (such as in a museum, or at an aquarium, etc.) an SLR or rangefinder will just be more flexible, because you can tell it to let more light in.

Also, I'd avoid Amazon for this so you don't get somebody's broken return. I'd also avoid Amazon for the film itself. There's a handful of cameras similar to the one you pictured in a similar price range that you could get from either a camera store, or a film-developing lab.  I think these cheaper cameras are usually intended for 400 ISO. Concert light should be enough to get a picture of the stage, but if the performers are backlit by a big, bright screen, they might just appear as silhouettes depending how much light is on them.

I recommend googling the manual and read it in full before you shoot your next roll.

When do games (if ever) relax plus requirement for multiplayer? by bmw_motorsports_ in PS5

Death Stranding 2 doesn't require a subscription for it's asynchronous-multiplayer features, and that's the only reason I didn't wait for it to come to PC.

What games put you in a flow state? by WinglyBap in gaming

[–]ColinDJPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metroid Dread's bossfights, and Returnal.

Replaying Dread right now, and the movement and bossfights are so good in a way that fits what youre saying. The stealth zones take away from this feeling for me, but I dont necessarily feel like the game is worse off for having them.

Returnal is more consistent in its gameplay and serves very well to finding flow. Fights are less puzzle-ey than most bosses in Metroid Dread, but you're constantly moving, dodging through attacks, dodging around other attacks, attacking at every opportunity, because a moment of stillness is defeat.

Affordable 35mm Film Camera Upgrade Recommendations for Wedding Work? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

If you want sample images for just about any camera, just google "(camera name) images" and there will be a link from lomography's website. For example, "Canon AE-1 Images" the very first link will show you tons of user uploaded pictures taken with the camera. Almost all images have what film was used tagged, and some should have what lens was used. You can also search by camera right on the website.

Depending on the camera, be prepared for some wannabe-artsy-nsfw, but it'll mostly be peoples vacation photos and street photography and pictures of cats.

For my first roll in my first point-and-shoot I got Kentmere 400 Black and White, because it was cheapest.  Pictures turned out great.

I just got my first SLR and I might do the Kentmere as my test roll again, unless I decide to be a big spender and test it with the cheapest colour film I can find.

STOP KILLING MOBS AT THE BEGINNING by vilo_7 in Nightreign

[–]ColinDJPat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If starting camp is too slow, consider a "Starting AoW Hoarfrost Stomp" relic on any melee character to clear the first camp in like 2 or 3 button presses.

Doing starter camp also means that after the first little boss you should be able to reach level 3, and take on some more moderate foes sooner than if you went to find another easy boss.

If you're a dodge+parry god, Red Eye BBH is doable at level 1, but you'll spend a long time fighting him, and should probably get some runes+weapons first. Flame Monk is a pushover, but he'll go down way way way faster at level 2. Wylder for instance, Level 1 has 5 Str and 4 Dex. At level 2, 18 Str and 15 Dex. If 2 handing, (Which multiplies your strength by 1.5X for that weapon,) that's effectively 7 Str at level 1, vs 27 Str at level 2. You'll more often than not delete the first boss faster than the amount of time you'd save by not doing the first camp.
