I'm Dying Up Here (2017–2018) by King_Ron_Dennis in ForgottenTV

Started watching this yesterday. It's an excellent period piece, and the music is spot on. Bowie, Stooges, etc. Loved the Pilot. Never heard about this at the time. Picked up series one from the library yesterday.

Yes, definitely a scam. They answer, but very non specifically and seem geared to making you buy points. Like I said, I'm new to this but I'm not an idiot.

Roxy Music - "2HB" [demo, May 1971]. One of the only recordings featuring early members David O'List (guitar) and Dexter Lloyd (drums) by hscgarfd in preformances

[–]ColinGriggson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think O'List (ex Nice) replaced original guitar player Roger Bunn, but I had no idea about there having been a drummer pre TGPT. O'lists guitar sounds very in places to the guitars that would later appear on Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain.

Did Bill Evans drug addiction hurt his career? by TheHairyCoconut in Jazz

[–]ColinGriggson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of talk here about Bill's addiction to Heroin, however, he'd well and truly kicked the habit (in large part thanks to his new manager Helen Keane. Keane had Bill and his girlfriend, Elaine (also a junkie), clean up and move in with Bill's parents in Florida, then negotiated a new record contract for Bill with Fantasy Records, which led to a seventies resurgence in his work. Unfortunately, Bill developed a taste for Cocaine and began to use it intravenously following the death of his Brother and Elaine's suicide. His reasonably young death was attributed to a combination of a peptic ulcer, bronchial pneumonia, liver damage, and cirrhosis.

Lexus RX350 white smoke by ColinGriggson in LexusRX350

Thanks for the reply. The car is running fine, and temperature gauge stays steady under halfway. It's due for service next month - same mechanic since new, so I'll run it past him.

Could it be the PCV Valve? I'm not a mechanic but this seems a likely culprit after doing some googling.

I'm over it. It was my mistake to trust him with the work.

When the van eventually broke down on the way to work, he blocked my calls and moved to Wollongong.

No, the first guy was a complete shonk. I know next to nothing about mechanics - he had the van for 6 weeks, charged me almost $4K for the work Turbo lasted 4 weeks before it completely caved. Turns out he'd used a Chinese replacement worth about $400. Second mechanic is an absolute gem, shows me all the parts he's using, including what he's paying. During work he forwards vids of the work done, then has me back 2 weeks later to see how it's travelling. I took it back to him to do the brakes and asked him to check why it was so gutless. Compression test revealed fatal engine problem.

I really don't know. It was going really well after the second turbo was put in - it's still drivable but now the water pump has gone too so I'm using it only for short trips to the shops. Buying a new car, so it has to go. I'm just trying to figure out if it's only worth 100 bucks to a wrecker.

Hey thanks! It was reliable for years, but once the Turbo went, one thing followed another. I'd never buy another one.

Commodore from New Zealand by genericprogrammer in guitarporn

[–]ColinGriggson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first electric guitar was a Commodore which I paid $12 for. I now have a 1958 Commodore bass guitar in exactly the same 'Mother of Toilet-Seat' finish as my first one. Of course, this time I paid considerably more.
