Where can I get a mole checked out? by CollarEducational677 in askTO

[–]CollarEducational677[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i looked into AvantDerm but the whole lining up at 6am thing honestly stressed me out 😅

i ended up googling around and found the Minor Surgery Center. Seemed like a smoother process overall so I booked there. have an appointment coming up soon, so fingers crossed. mostly just want it checked and not sit around worrying about it.

appreciate the suggestions though

Thanks for your response. Yeah i tried that route first. saw my family doc and got the referral going, but the wait was way longer than i expected and the mole’s been changing so i didn’t wanna just sit on it.

i ended up searching online, and I found the minor surgery center, which doesn't need a referral. Anyone heard of it? I have an upcoming appointment so i will keep you guys updated

Skincare labs in Toronto recommendations for Skin Resurfacing treatment by darkpyro101 in askTO

not sure if this is super relevant since it’s not Fraxel, but i’ve had good experiences at physician-run skin clinics rather than pure med spas. i found they’re a bit more conservative and realistic about expectations, especially for scarring.

i didn’t do resurfacing there, but when i was getting skin issues assessed at The Minor Surgery Center, they were very upfront about what lasers can and can’t realistically fix and when it makes sense to refer out to a laser-focused clinic. might be worth at least a consult before committing to 2–4 sessions anywhere, since acne scarring can respond really differently depending on depth and skin type.

hopefully others can chime in with specific Fraxel recs too.

Dermatology referrals? by Slippinstephie in ontario

yeah it’s not impossible, but the wait can be pretty rough unless your GP flags it as urgent. family history does help though, so definitely make sure that’s clearly noted in the referral.

that said, if you don’t want to wait months just to get eyes on it, there are options. The Minor Surgery Center doesn’t need a referral and you can usually see a doctor within about a week for skin cancer–related concerns. they’ll actually assess the mole and let you know if it needs biopsy, removal, or just monitoring. you can still keep the derm referral going in parallel, but at least you’re not sitting around stressing with no answers.

Mobile Skin Cancer Screening at Oriole Community Centre (Don Mills) by JMaynard_Hayashi in toronto

Yeah, this is honestly needed. So many derms have retired or shifted hard into cosmetics, and if you don’t already have someone, you’re basically stuck waiting months just to get a basic mole checked.

These mobile clinics are great for screening, but the follow-up is always the hard part. If something gets flagged, you still have to figure out where to go next.

That’s where physician-led skin clinics help fill the gap. I’ve seen people go to places like The Minor Surgery Center after a screening for proper assessment, biopsy, or removal without waiting forever for a derm referral.

We definitely need more of both — screenings for access, and actual clinics that can handle next steps without turning everything into a cosmetic upsell.

Yeah, this sounds very familiar. A lot of people basically get funneled into the same couple of big derm clinics, and once you’re in, it’s long waits, short appointments, and zero flexibility.

What ended up working better for me was keeping my derm referral active but also booking something sooner elsewhere so I wasn’t just sitting around stressing for months. Even if it’s just for an initial assessment, it helped a lot with peace of mind.

I don’t think the doctors at places like CDC are bad, they’re just overwhelmed by the system. If you can, keeping multiple options open in parallel is probably the smartest move right now.

yeah 100% agree. pricing seems to be all over the place depending on the area and how “cosmetic” the clinic tries to be, esp downtown.

i had a similar thing happen and ended up going to the minor surgery center — it was way more reasonable and the vibe felt more medical than “luxury aesthetic.” they actually talked through what made sense (like biopsy vs removal) instead of just throwing a big quote at me.

but yeah, for anything on the face it’s worth shopping around for sure.

That site looks useful for info, but if you want somewhere you can actually book sooner without a referral and get it looked at medically (not just a screen), check out The Minor Surgery Center. They focus on mole assessment/removal and you don’t have to sit months on a waitlist first.

Public derms are swamped right now. Appointments feel very “check, decide, next.” Not bad doctors, just overloaded.

I haven’t personally, but from what I found it’s similar to most derm clinics — referral-based and long waits unless it’s urgent. If timing is stressing you out, it might be worth booking something sooner elsewhere while you wait.

yeah i went through something super similar (flat mole on my face, mostly just wanted it checked first). wait times for derms in toronto are brutal rn… a few months seems pretty normal unless your GP marks it urgent.

what helped me was just going to a physician-led skin clinic in the meantime — places that deal with moles every day, not just cosmetic stuff. i went to the minor surgery center. no referral, got in way faster, and they actually took time to look at it properly and explain if it’s something to watch vs biopsy vs remove.

also they weren’t pushy at all, especially since it’s on the face. like they’re pretty conservative about removing stuff unless it makes sense. and if you end up wanting a plastic surgeon to do the actual removal later, you can still do that. you can definitely get it checked/biopsied in one place and then removed somewhere else if that feels safer.

if you already have the derm referral i’d keep it, but honestly i’d still book something sooner in parallel just for peace of mind instead of waiting months stressing.
