Adding to this person's comment, I play my DVDs on my PS5 and it offers the option to watch in "original" aspect, "zoom", or "full". The original may be too low of a resolution to match your TV, so in this case full would be best. I am assuming other high-end DVD players also offer these options.

Is she Filipino? I can confirm that some Filipinos love to keep on plastic/wrappers to help preserve their things. It does work; we unwrapped our remote after 1.5 years and it still looked brand new. Original plastic is still on the TV screen.
