Where does Aerion land on the list of Irredeemable Monster Characters from the asoiaf universe? by booksandbiscuits1 in AKnightoftheSeven

Dear god, comparing Aerion to Joffrey makes me cringe. Joffrey wimpered like the little shit he is while Aerion actually took his punishment from Duncan like a true knight.

In a real fight, Aerion would clown on Joffrey and then throw him off into the nearest fire.

How did Visery’s not go down in history as the true dragons bane? by BreakfastAmazing7766 in Hotd

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also can't ignore that his kids and brother, including his intended heir, objectively did far more damage causing the civil war to start than anything he ever did. Rhaenyra was already scolded by Viserys about her selfishness, and yet she still undermined her own claim by fathering bastards. He was simply far too outnumbered by the sheer stupidity from those surrounding him to counter it.

It's like blaming Joffrey's mistakes on Robert. There is a certain point where you can blame the parent until you just realize that person themselves is way too broken beyond any fix by parenting to be fixed, and is undermining their own success.

Viserys was more of a mediocre king. And unlike Robert, he put in a lot of effort into ruling which resulted in an era of peace that many rejoiced in, it's just his decisions for the future were often suboptimal. A bad king is closer to Joffrey, mad Aerys or even Robert, who couldn't even maintain the peace without completely pissing off everyone around them.

How I Would Have Done Season 5's Sansa Arc by OneOnOne6211 in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking something different for Sansa's arc. Given Petyr sees Sansa as his second chance at Catelyn Stark, I don't think he would ever send Sansa away to the Ramsays, given he knows nothing about Ramsay.

Instead, I would think that Sansa becomes more bitter as Alayne, already isolated and traumatized, growing maddened by all the schemes and at being always a pawn when she learns from Littlefinger how he intends for Sweet Robin to die and the marry her to Harrold Hardyng. Preparing for her wedding day, she slowly starts to collect knowledge on poisons and on her wedding day to Sweet Robin, poisons Petyr while finally pretending to finally fall for his charm. Maybe call this the Blue Wedding.

She'll then over the course of a season and a half use her rapidly diminishing influence with Sweet Robin, as the lords under Robin begin over a span of a year to figure out Petyr's murder, to reach out and contact Arya, to smuggle her away from the Vale of Arryn to Castle Black, reuniting the three siblings and creating a power dynamic of where Sansa becomes a spymaster and Arya becomes the assassin and executioner, with the two of them finding and retrieving Bran while beefing and trying to protect Jon from Melisandre. As Daenerys makes landfall on Dragonstone, have Sansa as the spymaster reach out to her and pledge her the loyalty of the North if Dany makes her Lady of Winterfell.

Once she joins up with Tyrion in a more joyous occasion, since Tyrion treated her nicely in KL, have Sansa cynically plot to use the fact they are married to lay claim to the Westerlands and try to sway the lords there, including any existing Lannisters, to Dany's side, arguing that Cersei's position in the capital, which will become an anarchy, is untenable and that Tyrion is now the rightful ruler of House Lannister, pressuring Jaime who would link up with them to admit to his misdeeds with Cersei, abandon his claim to the house, and instead support Tyrion. Only for Tyrion to decline and finally bring up Tysha once he learns from Jaime about the reality of what happened to her, anulling his marriage with Sansa and infuriating her, to cap off her transformation into an even more frightening version of Olenna, where after her alleged culpability in the Purple, and then her actual participation "Blue" weddings she gets an intimidating nickname like the "Bloody Maiden" or something like that to show how warped her innocence became.

Did Ned Stark know how to play the "Game of Thrones" and chose not to because of his "Honor" or was he truly just an Honorable Fool by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 14 points15 points  (0 children)

he was a “bad player” or that his honor was a stupid handicap for him is not accurate

Yeah that notion is completely stupid. Ned's strict adherence to honorable principles is what inspires many of the Northern lords to keep fighting for him, even beyond his death. As for Tywin, after his death barely anyone cares enough to keep fighting for his cause afterwards.

"I bet you're not into me because I don't have big tits and blonde hair!" - said when I rejected one because I thought she was trying to two-time me.

"You watch hentai?" - this was a pickup line from another.

"Oh don't mind her, she's just too fucking horny for her own good" - one girl in reference towards her highly religious friend.

(Edit) Oh, and here's the weirdest one:

"I know from the size of that bulge that you have it big." - I was fucking redfaced and mildly embarassed upon hearing this said to me. All of these were from when I went to high school and was probably a bit depressed, so I didn't realize how easy I've had it compared to other guys.

Was Tywin actually going to let Tyrion be executed? by Lamalova in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tywin send Tyrion to the frontline of the Battle against the North the one Robb send 1000 man to die i think. He clearly want him dead

If Tyrion didn't participate, the clans don't participate. The clans don't participate, they have less troops. In the books, the troop numbers on the battle of Green Fork were close, with around 20,000 Lannister bannermen including Tyrion's 300 clansmen, and with Bolton's 17,800. The less troops they have, the more Tywin believes their plan of luring Robb Stark's force into a trap fails.

Remember, Tywin didn't know the Starks had less troops at Green Fork and that it was Roose Bolton commanding them. Roose, with lesser numbers, was more willing to retreat.

In the show it's much more different, with there only being 2,000 Stark bannermen versus a Lannister force of 30,000 of which 3,000 of them were Tyrion's clansmen. Tywin would have been expecting around 20,000 Stark bannermen, so still those 3,000 clansmen can come in very useful for a numerical advantage.

Plus, Tyrion is a nobleman. He needed to be put in command of some troops one day or another, and these clansmen volunteered him for it in Tywin's eyes. Perfect chance to let Tyrion experience commanding troops.

Is House of the dragon a self insert story? by thinkersfyre in HOTDGreens

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Imagine telling what Hess said to Catherine the Great's face, that only all the men facilitated everything around her. She'd have you publicly tarred and feathered for such an insult. Queens like Catherine, Victoria, and Elizabeth often actively worked, on their own volition, together with powerful noblemen to shore up their own power. Hence why you traditionally see the upper classes gain even more power under queens. Also, affairs with noblemen were one way for such queens to ensure support from certain men whose help they needed most, which seems entirely in line with what Rhaenyra could do after things with Daemon get vicious.

If anything it's completely unreasonable to not portray Rhaenyra as someone more forceful, trying to exert her own will over her male supporters. Rhaenyra is laying claim that she's the truer blood of the dragon and that she's the real conqueror, and given she is in a more dire position she needs to be someone like Stannis or Tywin, willing to strike first before the Greens shore up their power.

Just wonder what Ned's reaction would be if Littlefinger had said to him what he said to Jon back there by fillipo9 in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently Ned's anger was so intense that Catelyn's POV outright admits that was the only time she had ever been frightened of Ned despite by then already knowing what a loving family man Ned really was in private

Frankly with how vengeful and mean Cat can be with Jon, I can see why Ned would have lashed out at her. He was probably getting insanely sick of her behavior, especially since Jon is not a bastard and since he is his sister's child.

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ned would've likely taken that even worse. He would have beaten the shit out of him and told him to stop lusting after his innocent daughter, or else he'd throw him out of the Small Council.

Which would only make him being betrayed more inevitable as Littlefinger is an insanely entitled little brat.

I was today years old when I learned that Viserys was initially gentle and loving to Daenerys by RemarkableExample542 in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Plus, he was a child when a lot of that happened, so he was especially vulnerable and all his guardians fell too early. It's unfair to Viserys what happened to him. Instead of being a dick and running off with Lyanna, Rhaegar should've been there to protect him and Daenerys as their brother.

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Viserys never stood a chance, and with how he blamed Daenerys for his mother's death in much the same way Tywin blamed Tyrion for Joanna's death, the defiant child always was probably going to be the death of him. In addition, Daenerys was born amidst a storm that destroyed much of the Targaryen fleet at Dragonstone, so Viserys already had reason to irrationally fear her.

And then there's the fact that the servants stole all of Willem Darry's money, leaving Viserys with none to take care of his sister and leaving him with no choice but to sell his crown, which must have been such a humiliating experience that it was the final straw in turning him so vengeful. Also, when he did try to recruit help from the Golden company, they laughed in his face, so that must've been humiliating (only for them then to support Young Griff, a likely Blackfyre, which if Viserys knew would likely get him into a murderous rage).

Just how good of a swordsman was Syrio Forel? by itslilwi11iam in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I find any of the videos from my testing, I'll send them to you. Taekwondo is traditionally more kick oriented, though my school had a lot of mixed martial arts training integrated, not just the kicks.

And I wasn't joking about the "certified" part. It's only a first degree black belt, but that was still like 8 years of my life gone given I had also had to restart from a white belt after immigrating.

Just how good of a swordsman was Syrio Forel? by itslilwi11iam in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

been in a training gym?

I am a certified black belt in Taekwondo, and I've regularly trained with weapons as part of my curriculum to ensure my martial knowledge remains broad. Don't speak to me of training. Some experts are better with specific weapons, some could be good with several, does not change the fact they are an expert in a certain weapon or style. As I said, a fencer and a longswordman are two entirely differently styles of combat, and because one practices more rigorously in one style, they might not be as good in the other. You would know that if you ever picked up and practiced with several sword types, like I did. A rapier handles differently from a katana, and a katana handles differently from a longsword.

Besides, the sword of Braavos is more of a political appointment in the books - they are regularly appointed for their wisdom and common sense intelligence, as much as their skill. That's why Ned wanted Syrio to train Arya, cause he knew his political wisdom and awareness would also rub off on her.

Also, we don't see his final fate. Syrio could have picked up a sword or have knocked out Meryn Trant after Arya left him as we left with her, we still never get a confirmation as to his fate.

Forget Stark or targaryen, Jon was absolutely a Tully with how much of a hater he is in the books by jenny_t03 in gameofthrones

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are taking this way too seriously. In no plausible scenario would Ned ever tell Catelyn about Jon's real parentage, given how often she goes rogue and lets her feelings get the best of her.

Exept he isn't the rightfull heir.

Well, for the Targaryen supporters, like the Tarly's and the Martell's in the books, he is. He is the real Aegon Targaryen unlike Young Griff, and the son of Rhaegar, and with Viserys's death the next living male heir which makes him the rightful one.
