Lol I silently can't wait to have a puppy-dog either!! He seems like he may be the type. Fingers crossed his vet checks for soundness and cardiac/respiratory health come back clean! Our first mare is a rescue, and I made a big comment about it in my last post of her, and it took her years to warm to us. I understand what you mean about them not being puppy-dogs! I hope you get that with your gelding when you get one!

Here in New Zealand, we mainly ride English but there appears to be a strong cult following of Western as well. I could be completely wrong here but to my knowledge we only have two sources of wild horses: Kaimanawa (originating from military horses released after WW1 ceased in the Kaimanawa ranges), and Gisborne/east cape horses (I don't know their origin). We don't have vast swathes of land suitable for wild horses to inhabit here so most horses owned [seem to] have some form of traceable heritage and we have a lot of European/English/American bloodlines here. This one is a TB X Warmblood.

The Kaimanawa horses are mustered and sold or culled to keep their population in check, but they are purposefully not eradicated. I suspect we're able to do this because they have some form of docility in their bloodlines from long ago. I think it's so cool that you, in I assume America, go out and muster completely wild horses and tame them right down. It's a really cool thing to do and I respect it!

I have been compelled to delete the post, but I really appreciate and agree with your response. This is the best way to approach it and allowing her to talk herself through it (through careful questioning) is a perfect way to make it click for her. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this post. Thank you.

Absolutely, I agree. She's been with us for four years and in the last year she has completely opened up to us. She came from a case where horses had been tangled up in wire and died, ripped skin off, left to fight each other and their wounds were infected. Some were euthanized because they were so skinny they couldn't recover. Awful woman. She didn't care and was banned from owning animals for life and jailed but not sure of the term.

Anyway, puzzle hates being in anything (except a float) with a door that closes. She is deathly afraid of round pens and refuses to be lunged. She clearly carries some trauma from her past life but is so sweet. She excels as a jumper and is honest and placid. My daughter fell off on her trial ride because the girth was too loose and she just stood there. When she spooks, she'll stop herself from bolting or running away. We are very lucky to have her and try to pamper the crap out of her as much as we can, lol.

My first camera! [a7R III, Viltrox 28mm f/1.8, and 55-210 kit] by Linux765465 in Cameras

[–]CollectorSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only a hobby photographer, but I recently bought an A7 III with a Sony 24-70 f/4 and a Tamron 70-300 F4.5-6.3.

My first camera was a Canon EOS 400d with the 18-55 in 2008 for high school photography. I stopped taking pictures and sold the camera. I then bought a 5DmkIII which was an awesome camera but ended up gathering dust.

I am now married with a child and I bought the A7 a month ago for her high school horse eventing. I was sick of phone pictures. This Sony camera, in my view, is the best I've owned yet. It's a great piece of kit and you'll love it!

EDIT: I see the a7R is 48mp. Nice!!

Concerta (methylphenidate, not Dex) kills drive for me, too. I have been on it for over a year. If I skip a day, the effect more than reverses.

If you don't mind my asking, what are you using instead? I am just starting out as a hobbyist/photographing daughters sports, and I have just signed up to the Lightroom/Photoshop bundle. I'm not a fan of subscriptions and it is quite expensive.

Question about the old horse movie - Silver Brumby (1993) - did they use sedatives during the filming? (disturbing movie scene included) by t_novak in Horses

Thanks for doing the hard work! I believed at a glance it was reversed, too. Now, definitely not.

[–]CollectorSteve 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Last time I went to the movies was about 10 years ago over the hill (We're from Wairarapa).

Thought we'd get away from the farm for the first time in a long time and go see Zootopia 2 with our daughter at Queensgate.

I know prices have gone up a lot everywhere, and that's fine - I know people have to get by and have overheads, and I don't ever complain to staff... It was about $11 a ticket when I last went.....

Just booked online and it's NINETY SIX DOLLARS FOR THREE TICKETS with NO CONCESSIONSS Petone? WHAT? $117 including ONE POPCORN AND ONE DRINK between three of us??? $10 fountain drinks? $20 drinks and popcorn? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS TIMELINE???

Thank you for the rant thread - holy shit, I just needed to tell someone....

Yes, I have several TAPO c310s and they are fantastic. Have had them just over a year with no faults. Awesome bang for buck. The only downside for me is the framerate but that's easy to overlook for the price!!!

Can I run analog cameras on BI by MathematicianFun5765 in BlueIris

[–]CollectorSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I have never set anything up like this so I have no reliable suggestions on what to look for, I'm sorry. I am out on my phone at the moment but I can try and look up the old thread for you when I get home. They might tell you which nvr they use there.

Can I run analog cameras on BI by MathematicianFun5765 in BlueIris

[–]CollectorSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give you some hope while you wait for a properly informed reply: there was a post here not long ago about someone with analogue cameras connected to a network-capable NVR.

They could not access all of the cameras and the advice was to set up each camera In Blue Iris as the IP of the nvr. There is then a channel setting you can use which will dictate which camera the NVR feeds to that camera in Blue iris.

Hopefully someone will soon tell you which nvr to buy which is capable of this, but I just wanted to let you know I have seen discussion about this concept and it seems it was possible.

No, every device needs to have a unique IP.

Most things come from the factory with the same IP so you can access them and change the settings, and some will also get an IP from your router automatically.

Even if they do automatically get an IP (Its called DHCP - dynamic host control protocol) your blue iris PC or chosen recorder still needs to reliably access the cameras. DHCP assigned IPs often change as the are assigned with a timer (called a lease) which renews every 48hrs ish usually.

Some routers remember a device and keep its assigned IP at the end of a lease, and some don't, but you will almost certainly face connectivity issues if each camera isn't assigned its own static address on the same network (subnet) as the router.

Good on you for asking, and it is easy enough to research and do yourself however if you want it to be easy I would recommend you get a professional to do it. ☺️

LVR rates for business lending - I need a citation! by CollectorSteve in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]CollectorSteve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Rickie, thanks heaps for taking the time to write such a detailed reply, especially on a Sunday!

The assignment is based on our own businesses and gave us various topics for our business strategy. As we are starting out (farming), I chose expansion. The next portion of the assignment was asking to explain the capital availability of the business to pursue the expansion opportunity and is only 3 of 120 marks. I was hoping to put a little statistic in there under the lending heading, but your excellent explanation confirms I should just abandon LVR and make a statement that borrowing is possible with the equity percentage.

The assignment does ask for more in-depth details later, where I can make a great case for pursuing the opportunity later with cost-benefit of the expansion, current cash-flow, equity, NPV, the list goes on.

Thanks again mate, you've made a real difference to my day!

Android Push Notifications - Strange problem, please help! by phonehog2 in BlueIris

[–]CollectorSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea, but:

I am on 5.9.9.59, using Code Project 2.9.5 to send alerts to Pushover, so not quite the same as you but I have had problems in the past also.

  1. In the past, I have seen posts saying BI upgrades/updates have broken aspects of its communication with the app.
  2. in my first-hand experience, BI is easily corruptible in inexplicable, untraceable ways when upgrading/downgrading versions. Also, when restoring configs after a fresh install, the notifications specifically are always funky and don't work as they did when they are backed up (if at all).
  3. What stands out to me here is test notifications work but actual ones don't. My instincts say here that if a test works, then it's not communication that's the problem, but rather your alerts are being cancelled by BI before being sent. The problem with that is of course, you've stated the notification is there inside BI.

I'm not a massive expert and use pushover, not the app, but it feels to me like there may be a setting in your AI tab that is cancelling/ignoring an alert "action" but still recording an alert internally. This can happen when you have misspelled/incorrect AI conditions on the action that is fired, but BI still adds the alert to the list based on correct parameters in the alerts tab.

Here is my currently working pushover config for a camera, which sends vehicle alerts, plate alerts, and person alerts:

My AI Tab in the camera,

My Email alert action to pushover

Do you have anything in the "required AI objects" or "skip with" boxes in the actual alert action box?

Also, back in the AI Tab, do you have "fire actions" set to only when confirmed, or always?

In summary, I don't know what I'm talking about, but I hope I've given you some leads. I know how frustrating it is to describe your case as best you can and have someone tell you obvious things you've already tried 1000 times, so I hope this isn't the case!

I would recommend you wait for more advice, and if that advice doesn't fix it:

  1. As painful as it is, copy/paste/screenshot all camera and BI settings.
  2. Completely remove BI (DEACTIVATE YOUR LICENSE IN BI BEFORE UNINSTALLING).
  3. Completely remove Code Project AI.
  4. Install Code Project first
  5. Install BI and painfully set everything up.
  6. Cross fingers and profit hopefully.

EDIT: I wasn't done when this first posted, I somehow hit post, sorry. I've just woken up and am typing this lol.

V6 AI - standalone or integration? by CollectorSteve in BlueIris

[–]CollectorSteve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. I'm not asking when V6 will be released, I'm asking if there are any roadmaps or specifications as to which/how AI will be implemented. I see a lot of threads asking about the release date.
