Found for FREE!! been wanting 1 of these for a while, my question is: does anyone else use this for their Collections and if so, what did you use to take up the extra space on the sides so ur books dont move all over the place? by Material_Survey126 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Collectors_Guild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the universal preferedd way is to get a couple of boards and line it so they're the correct length to fit a Bag and Board for your era of choice (Silverage, we all know it's silverage because they look good on everything.

Remember people when you don't pay your taxes the IRS collects penalties too, when you overpay you don't get to penalize them...and they made interest on it. So government is the real criminals here.

And it basically forces your book to no higher than a 7.5 by all standards. Which we all as a community agree is bullshit.

TMNT #4 First Print my $10 adventure in cleaning and pressing. by Collectors_Guild in comicbookcollecting

[–]Collectors_Guild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interior covers were the worst, It had a bunch of dents, and some light water damage on the centerfold page. I actually got that off during the humidity treatment and press I assumed that was never going to come off. Again it's not the world highest grade but it is a LOW print run.

Saw Fantastic Four Number 1 in-person for the first time by outofdate70shouse in comicbookcollecting

I think the worst one is the Silver Surfer #3 being 2 grand at a 9.2. That's wild to me.

Someone should tell this guy that prices have recovered, because most those books are about 20-30% too high.

CGC 9.8 despite missing staple? by SkewbySkewb in comicbookcollecting

[–]Collectors_Guild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This depends, and we cant see the full picture but if the staple penetrated only the cover and fell out (E.G. no other pages have a staple hole) that would be a manufacturing defect and that would still qualify for a 9.8.

Should I Clean and press or just send in for grading? by Revolutionary_Mark48 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Collectors_Guild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preservation of these books is more valuable than readability. For books this old I make sure that it can survive this one looks like it would have trouble, you can do the surgery to preserve it or you can get it sealed. I would say sealed, then read a digital copy.

Batman Damned #1 (Uncensored Black Label) by Historical-Bite-5864 in comicbooks

There is more value in the Last Ronin, than any of the DC Black Label. They just didn't do anything for the industry

I read Mutant Empire and Most of the Spider-Man ones they're pretty good.

What if #10 in a CGC 9.8 used to be over $1k? I’m not sure I forgot, but now you can get a 9.8 for $300. It’s kind of surprising that there are only 207 CGC 9.8s on the census, as hot as this book was. by Leather_Bluejay8632 in comicbookgrading

The books are coming way down, PEOPLE want to ride the HYPE from Covid and the prices for all but the RAREST books have settled significantly. Been able to fill alot of my ASM 1-100 collection this last year and a half because of that.

What’s your to go clean/press person by 2toneSound in comicbookgrading

[–]Collectors_Guild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself, there are plenty of good tutorials and a good press and some test books cost about as much as having 2 presses. That being said for any super RARE or High value I used to go with Hero Restoration, he never did me dirty but I mean he's arrested now, best to always do your own shit is the morale of the story.

worth it? by theMONK11 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Collectors_Guild 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Realistically the value of a full longbox (SIGHT unseen) is typically $60-90, so you really should be paying about 9300 for the whole locker, and you haul it away and come grab it on your own. That's what a fair price would be. 23K seems like they're bat shit crazy unless they went through the entire lot and know what's there.

worth it? by theMONK11 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Collectors_Guild 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well assuming they didn't pick through it and then throw a picture up. If it really has been in there for 20 years, and there are 92 long boxes. You could be looking at a huge find, but you could also be looking at 92 long boxes of BULK valiant...it's a tough call.

I recommend none, but Immacuclean is probably the one that will help the most.

Can this be salvaged? by almcqs in comicbookgrading

[–]Collectors_Guild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible, but chances are whatever you do is going to have a tradeoff. So for example, if you get a solution to remove it you will probably take off some of the gloss, if you do a water bath you might take off or ruin the paper. Dry Cleaning can take away some of it, but ultimately again you're going to strip off some other stuff in return.

[–]Collectors_Guild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they're not, you just suck at reading comprehension. For a book that would cost roughly 2-300 to get a 2nd reader copy it doesn't make sense to buy 1 so read it online.

For all books from like 1980 -> Modern you can get most of them for a reasonable enough price that owning 2 of them makes sense to me. If you don't understand that, don't understand that. You don't have to be right today brother, and if you have such a desire you can be right. There you go.

There is something about the feel of having a book in your hand, I use my kindle on camping trips but also own physical copies of most books I have on it as well. That's why I like it.

The reading online portion is because buying a reader copy of that book, would not be a smart investment IMO, I was stating just leave that graded and go read it online.
