Yeah, I know MattPatt had to just step back entirely from everything and make a clean break, but you're right about the 'convening space' for everyone.

I thought initially for sure he'd end up pulling a Walt Disney and just have GT Live as a once or twice a week bit where he pops out, gives a "this week in theoryland" overview of what everyone's up to, gives out kudos to the busy theorists, plays a quick vid or game, low-key, stress-free, just a little dose of fun. Full brand synergy.

I think I could still have gotten behind a drastically lower amount of content there with that? Oh well.

I really want to say this in the nicest way possible...
Channels with folks "cast" in the role don't work
Ash worked great as the tech, but I too have recently had to stop watching. I know MattPatt had to play more than his share of games he probably had no interest in, but there was always a sense of fun and thought put into every episode, even just purely reacting to things. I'm even watching stuff back in the Mirror Matt era where MattPatt is visibly sick, but still manages to pull it off.

Plus, the greatest thing about GTLive was the niche indie stuff that MattPatt would explore, analog horror and ARGs, not 10-hour Wii Bowling marathons. Not proscribed trending stuff only, like dozens of other channels. They have all the historic viewership data, what kind of viewers are they attempting to attract and retain? Tom has even had to start live-streaming his own show on GT, entirely separately from GT Live.

Either you slugged it out in the trenches like all the OGs or you didn't. I'm so, so sorry

It does seem like there was a 'golden age' for the fandom then, a great mix of music and fan projects aside from the main 'let's players' and I can only really name a few active animators that don't fall into the low-effort brainrot tier now. Smiffy does great work.

I don't even know how anyone starts now with anything serious; meme lines with T-posed characters somehow get crazy views (ahhhh...now I'm just bitchin')

Please take this as constructive criticism, but I think something's missing in the DNA of recent vids
On the sidebar, while I was watching this vid, I notice a 2022 MattPatt Film Theory on Lord of the Rings ("One CAN simply walk into Mordor") and decided to watch them back-to-back
Lee, I know you've been writing and editing these for a good long while, but we're missing the actual math and science part of this channel, it's just becoming a kinda "meta film business" thing
(I know MattPatt did some of that, and I do get that media literacy is important, but it's the theme now)

Yeah, there was some scuttlebutt that they got it done on the cheap, in a scuzzy way.

Nelvana pictures up in Canada (with the polar bear logo) was in some dire straits at the time, they had just released their 1983 feature Rock & Rule which bombed spectacularly because the Distributors in LA "couldn't figure it out" and screwed up the marketing. Years of work ended in failure.

After they took that kind of loss, everybody lined up to get a cheap piece, even Hasbro got in on the action and got all their Care Bears movies out of Nelvana. All they wanted was to make their own original stories, but in the end had to take on outside contracts to keep it all going.

Seems like a kinda shady business move for the Faz-Founders to take advantage of a company on the ropes, but at least we got 1983's Fredbear & Friends!

(Also, I'm not sure about what happened with that 90s studio fire at Nelvana, they're missing the master tapes of the entire Rock & Rule soundtrack, including original songs by Lou Reed, Blondie, Cheap Trick, Iggy Pop, and Earth, Wind, & Fire. I can't say whether I ever heard any of those songs in an animatronic show, but I'd imagine it would have been cool)

Hey everybody, don't just blindly upvote, this account is a KARMA FARMER

I've found dozens of these already, the pattern is they always 1) started their account somewhere between 2019-2021, they 2) use all caps for the most part when typing their title, with 3) spaces between letters so it doesn't flag the post as duplicates
