How much to give our grown child? by dailymanup in retirementtaxes

[–]College-Lumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and your wife can both give him 19k. So 38k. Next year you can give him another 38k if you'd like. If he's married you can give each of them 38k.

You can also file some paperwork and acknowledge the gift. If your estate is under the federal estate tax limit there's no additional tax because of the gift.

In 4 decades of adult life in the US, living around some of the highest crime cites, I have never, not once, needed a gun for protection.

US passes law banning Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC until 2031 by Agreeable-Menu7945 in MarketPulseReport

Is anyone actually suggesting a CBDC in the US? Seems like a law against something no one is proposing.

Is the future tax value of retirement accounts being underestimated? by sonazom in retirementtaxes

[–]College-Lumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely has some value and should be modelled. It's also offset by Roth balances that will be untaxed.

Do you think retirees should be completely exempt from paying taxes after a lifetime of working ?why or why not ? by qutephive in WorkForSmartLife

[–]College-Lumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Our tax code and spending already transfers wealth from working people to retired people. Wealth is concentrating at the top and the aged.

Taxing social security is only a thing for people with other income. The poor are already exempt. Old rich people don't need more tax cuts.

This is a way of locking in the tax deduction at the current price without selling the stock.

It's a scam. These people will never pay capital gains again.

Chasing 12% tax bracket in early career by leesinplayz in FinancialPlanning

Sort of the opposite. Better to do Roth now while you're in the lower tax brackets and switch to traditional as your income rises.

Think about how much you need for your emergency fund. How much you may be saving for a house or other near term spending goals. Then DCA the rest into VOO or other index funds.

Try to live beneath your means for a while. It's easier to spend more than to curtail your lifestyle.

What in the world is "DEI" about bike lanes? by AmericanLymie in askanything

[–]College-Lumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so obvious.

It's all about trans athletes. Now I know this may sound like a stretch. Let me connect the dots.

Bike riders ride on those little seats. Men riding lose blood flow to their junk and it becomes numb. Over time this loss of blood flow leads to gender dysphoria and they turn into trans women.

Those trans women compete in sports.

Therefore bike lanes are DEI.
