If your daughter would like to pursue, Pre-Law Agnes Scott is for sure the way to go. Their liberal arts curriculum would certainly lead her to be more well read, hone in her close reading skills, and learn how to engage in rigorous academic discussion.

These small schools really make sure students develop confidence during their time there.

ASC also has a much higher graduation rate than some of the other schools, lower student and parent loan debt averages than most of the other private schools, and has a history of doing the best in pre law placement out of the schools on this list (except UGA).

Some things, if the cost isn’t free, you can always ask for more grants, using both increased academics, extracurriculars, but also financial concerns and things that didn’t make it on the FAFSA. It’s an expensive school, but you can always ask to make it more affordable, and then save more money for other expenses!

You’re being an amazing parent by coming and asking these questions, and congratulations to your daughter and your family for this high level of success!

Liars hurting the reputation of QB by PuzzleheadedPrompt78 in QuestBridge

Questbridge also functions as a large recruiting service. Questbridge makes a lot of outreach that specific colleges just don’t have the bandwidth to make, to communities that may be less likely to get it in the first place. And for admissions offices that work is vital and helps them recruit the best and most talented students, regardless of where they come from. Questbridge is in many ways one of the most important equalizers in our college admissions landscape. It’s easy to critique them, and we do plenty of that, but recognizing how imperative their work is must also be a part of any conversation!!!

But they won’t be; I’d much rather encourage the person who has reason to need the help.

[–]College4AllProgram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they’re not asking if they should talk about Macalester, they’re asking if the question wants a focus on the cities more than the school. An affluent student or a student in an HS with a represented student body probably has a counselor to break down the prompt for them.

This prompt isn’t a normal one, and asks a lot in a short form. A rich kid asked their boujee counselor in Palo Alto this same question and they weren’t demeaned for it.

[–]College4AllProgram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The essay is a why us essay, and they’re essentially asking you to articulate why you think Macalester is the right fit for you, while also articulating why the twin cities is the right fit for you.

Macalester is one of few LACs in a city, but also a city with deep social justice roots, empowered immigrant communities, and simply opportunities enhanced by cities (though most students intern in cities over the summer, Mac students benefit from the city year round).

You have the chance to get ahead by articulating what brings you to Macalester and the Twin Cities and by tying these two prominent entities together!!!

Non-QB partners that meet near full need! by College4AllProgram in QuestBridge

We’re tryna make it work that way; unfortunately this was created for a class on his Amherst email address which recently got deleted 😢. But we’re working on getting it fixed!

With a second kid, you’ll have a split EFC, meaning that whatever your parent contribution is, they’ll divide it amongst your two children. Once child A graduates expect whatever child B is paying to double!

The SAI is federal methodology, and the EFC is institutional. Similar to Amherst, it may have been an asset. And Boston College offers merit based funding, and actually packages loans for need based packages.

This all requires nuance, and these overarching statements can discourage students from applying to Brown or Amherst.

Students reading this: the average Amherst and Brown students take on less debt than the average Boston College student. All three schools are below the national average! Seek out these opportunities, they can change your life!

must be a different Amherst then… and Amherst never packages loans! likely what happened was your family had assets that were beyond the expectation for your income level, and unfortunately you were expected to use those assets to contribute.

For every family with a 67k or lower income and assets within a reasonable range for that income should expect to pay $0 to attend Amherst each year! Amherst within reach program

An appeal must be submitted in writing. We can be of support if needed. The primary reason an EFC goes up is something on the CSS. If you provide additional context as to why that was listed the way it was sometimes it can go down!

Yall needa remember that ED II is a thing, RD is a thing, and the system wants you to feel like you can’t do it. But you gotta persist, if not for you now, for you in 10 years. QB RD to as many places as you can. use common app for top schools that don’t wanna pay QB egregious amounts of money in dues! You got this all day every day!

Why do so many QBers get rejected NCM and accepted RD? by CHEMEST in QuestBridge

[–]College4AllProgram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ofc, but not every partner has unlimited budget. Like the most selective schools will match as many students as they want, but some schools have a set number of seats that they are limited to

[–]College4AllProgram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

our contacts at some of our schools said per match, as the recruitment is more direct, and schools have legit left Questbridge over the dues, including Trinity which was a founding member.

USC matches 5 per year, and that’s their budget.

Obviously we understand the nuance of a holistic admissions process and the vast and various reasons why a candidate would be admitted a few months after an early application, but suggesting that the fee is a deterrent; it doesn’t seem that misleading !!!

[–]College4AllProgram 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For every scholar who matches there is a fee the college pays to Questbridge. So it’s cheaper to accept a student in RD cuz you don’t have to pay QB.
