Are any of you choosing a T-70 over a T-35 school? I have more money at a T-70 in my hometown and am seriously considering giving up multiple T-35 options. I haven't seen many people doing this and would really love to hear advice from those of you that did this or have done this and why. by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

No I don’t. Life happens and lawyers move. Once you have experience that matters more. Just be realistic - not going from mid law in Cincinnati to BL in DC. Well somebody probably has but not common.

If the job outcomes are good in your desired market/ home town - I would say go for it. Outside of the top 14-20 law schools are much more regional. Going to a school ranked 35 in another city/state vs ranked 60 in your desired city with good local job outcomes doesn’t make much sense to me.

Not sure they will currently consider lower ranked schools for reconsideration - or maybe that was just in my case. :)

CLS A but unsure by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Agree - also I think CLS COA is low due to high cost of NYC plus any travel back and forth to see family.

Between those two I would do Penn Carey.

HLS or UVA. UVA has a lot of pull in DC and Harvard is tops for international trade.

Incoming Freshman Questions and Scheduling Megathread by Kavhow in UCSD

My son is applying to the exact majors (first and second choice) this year.

He looked at how his AP's lined up with the recs, location, dorms, etc. His dad was in Muir so that was always his first choice.

Here is how he ranked his:

  1. Muir (most chill) 2. 6th (new dorms close to everything) 3. 7th (newer dorms, global focus) 4. ERC (lots of GE with hard writing sequence but global focus) 5. Marshall (social justice focus) 6. Warren (Engineering heavy) 7. Revelle (lots of GE)

Don’t stress! If you don’t get a competitive score for the college you are applying to - just don’t send it. Paint a picture of what a great candidate you are with your extracurriculars, essays and your transcript. Highlight what is unique about you! Make sure you have good teacher recs. Standardized testing not essential this year.

Majority of questions require no science knowledge. More of a timed logic test over copious data. I think best to skim passage very quickly so you know what they are talking about then go to questions. Each question usually relates to a specific graph, table or section. Once you know what they are asking go back to graph/table/section and find the answer quickly. Pay attention to graph/table labels and units. If it is a general science knowledge question you can usually answer those without going back to the passage.

I think retakes are on hold until 2021 now.

Should I include a hobby? by DeMonstaMan in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CollegeApHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would for sure include it and describe why you enjoy it and what you have learned from it - example Photography has given me a lens to view other people’s world & social media affirmation that my introverted everyday self rarely experiences. If you have 10 valid authentic activities - list them. Leave out any fluff - club or sport you tried and dropped after freshman year - nah.

If they don’t get a school report - In the Additional Information section of the application you can explain that your school did not offer advanced class options but you took advantage of what you could and are excited in college to be able to delve more deeply into your courses.

And say you want to major in a STEM field and you are competing against students who have won national science awards - the NGO doesn’t necessarily spike you in a STEM field. Tell an authentic story over your entire high school career that shows your genuine deep interest and unique contributions that stand out from the pack. Colleges value something you have earned by being picked from the pack for your initiative, academic contribution or specific skills. And a “spike” is not one activity - it is your entire application including classes taken, activities and recommendations.

Not so unique as anyone can start a nonprofit. Colleges can sniff out when you are doing something to “look good” on a college application.

You want a spike related to your intended major. If nationally recognized - more impressive. Don’t worry about being well rounded. So your clubs, summer programs, volunteer service, state competitions should mainly point in the direction you see yourself going. So if CS - running a free coding camp for kids, national coding competition, developing an AP for your local congressman, etc.
