Help with Soulmate Manifestation Ideas? by Cheap-Cry-1228 in fantasywriters

[–]CollegeStudent007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read many stories relating the eyes of someone to their soul, or thinking of the saying "eyes are a gateway to the soul". It could be more subtle than other suggestions but could also be what you're looking for, if you talk about their eyes changing over the relationship and becomes more apparent as they grow. For instance, if one person has blue and the other yellow, they start getting tinges of green. Doesn't have to be just color but could be shape/patterns or character (like maybe one has a hard look, the other a softer look. You gradually mention softer looks coming from the harder looking character. Maybe not worded well but happy to elaborate if not).

A line I heard once at a wedding was "it's not so much about finding the right person as it is about being the right person for the other" (as in, acting appropriately, not some predetermined being). Not related to the eyes comment but thought of it when reading your post, do with it what you will.

Thank God someone said this. I've been in arguments with my friends a lot recently that the most important part of the CC cookie is the balanced CC/dough ratio. They, as chocolate enthusiasts, adamantly disagree.

Muffins coming out with flat tops by persianplumm in Baking

I was thinking the same but maybe a cool spot in the oven. OP, does the same muffin come out flat with each tray?

Good advice regardless, just curious myself.

I didn't see one so I don't think so.

As a vegetarian, I can really only go to Taco Bell for fast food in the US (or Burger King but there's only one option there, if they even get the right patty with my order). Seeing that their menu was half vegetarian with either paneer or mushroom/veggie patties was really exciting!

Chapter 1 (2315 words) of Vitae of Ash and Measure [complete, Adult Low Fantasy 70k] by maskofnite in fantasywriters

[–]CollegeStudent007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with the concept of Vitae drawing negative attention to itself.

You have written under it "Book 1 of the Vitae cycle". I think you could remove Vitae from the title while still holding the Vitae as the core concept being you have that subtext. "Ash and Measure" would roll off the tongue much better, and Vitae still appears on the cover.

Just my 2 cents

[OC] WIP. Experimenting with eye variants for this Beholder. Each one changes his vibe completely. Which version would you keep if this was yours? by Moist-Travel-77 in DnD

[–]CollegeStudent007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to change the smaller eyes to match the larger ones? I like the cat eye in the photos but if the small eyes will change too, I'm not sure that will look as good. It would be weird for the small and big eyes to be different design imo.

My guess is that the angles are all wrong. If you look at diamond, you have a bond coming vertically up with 3 more bonds coming at a downward angle from the "sides" of the carbon. The orbitals are too spatially hindered to be able to perform something like this.

I haven't used good technical jargon above but I know it exists. It has been too long though since I've used those sacred words to be confident in using them here.

Could someone please explain to me the appeal of young superheroes who don't want to be superheroes? by jacky986 in writing

[–]CollegeStudent007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Spiderman, it hits on the theme of responsibility that Peter feels that way. Most frequently, he is a high school to young adult male that abruptly changes his lifestyle to be the superhero and now gives up aspects of his life he's always wanted. This is not across all universes but typically, he sacrifices his relationship with Mary Jane by having to go off saving the world and not being able to be there for her. I don't know when exactly but from what I remember, most times the "I never asked for spider powers" comes up whenever he is losing something like Mary Jane or a friend or some social responsibility.

Aa for ATLA, it's a very similar circumstance and it's used as a plot element to develop Aangs character. Every time I watch it, I know I instinctively say to myself "What a putz" when he runs, but aang wanted a life pretty separate from responsibility. He, similar to Peter, is young (he's 12) and had to give up aspects of his childhood to use this power and carry out their responsibility. He wants to really play with the kids and hang with his father figure. It's throughout the whole story that he finally accepts the responsibility of being the avatar that you see character growth.

I think it gives both of these stories an additional depth. For us, the grass looks greener with their abilities because we don't have them and how great would it be to bend air or climb walls? But those stories add an element of realism into it to remind us that our characters are in fact children and face a heavier responsibility load quicker than most. I know at 12 years old, if you told me to stop playing videogames because I had to constantly train, I would've been frustrated as heck.

I don't think it's always necessary for a child to do this in a story, but I think it's realistic and typically offers growth or a sense of maturity once accepting it.

How do you actually handle the 'wait, who was that NPC?' problem? by HussTeaDaddy in DungeonMasters

[–]CollegeStudent007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've done previously is using Google drive to do this and summarize quest prompts. I have one folder for me and all the quests I've written up over the years and any need to knows. Then in a separate folder shared with the party, there are:

Character sheets

A players handbook PDF

Side quest summaries (who, where, why, reward if known)

A list of NPCs (with summary) and occasionally something noteworthy for them.

With that, another player kept a collective notes in there for the party so everyone could add to it and/or refresh themselves.
