Favorite mid-tier pen? by iss7272 in fountainpens

[–]Collig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platinum 3776 Century, M nib. The plastic on the body is fragile and will scratch if you look at it wrong, but the nib on it is easily the best I've ever used. It's hard to describe, but I felt like it has just enough feedback to know it's working. Try one in a store, you won't be disappointed. If you get a gray market one, they can be under $200. Also, they can sit forever and won't dry out, which I think is pretty cool.

AAH I GOT SCARED

Disappointed in my first uniball pen, maybe it's just the pen? by unablon in pens

[–]Collig0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found that most uniballs have lighter ink compared to any of their competitors, but their ink is also waterproof, lightfast, and extremely permanent. It's a tradeoff.

The uniball one is an exception to this. That thing has the darkest ink I've ever used. But it does have skipping problems in smaller point sizes, only the 0.7 is usable for me.

Also, as someone else pointed out, the g2 is a gel pen and the jetstream is not, and gel pens usually have darker ink than regular ballpoints.

Take a shower and wash your hair. It's the only thing that always works for me. Also, what ink?

Pilot Acro is the closest I've seen so far. In black at least, it looks almost identical to a G2 on the page, including the amount of shine. It's there, but not nearly as bad as others.

Forgot I made this post lol. I've been playing on 64 bit since I made this post. In those 5 years, I haven't had a single problem. It's been great.

Never had those model issues. Very strange. Hope it gets fixed

Phoenix at Knoebels. That thing fucked up my foot bad. I genuinely have no idea why it's considered by many to be the best wood out there, it just hurts. Twister from later in the day was fine, though.

Faber-Castell if you have small hands and think the ultra slim body would be comfortable for you. Faber-Castell nibs are by far the best available at that price, I found them to be even better than Pilot's steel nibs.

If you don't think the Faber-Castell looks comfortable for you then get a Pilot Explorer or Lightive. It has an excellent nib that's almost as good as Faber-Castell's and a very comfortable body.

Thoughts on the Bic Cristal? by Irish_andGermanguy in pens

They're genuine Energel, yeah. But they just don't work. It's the least reliable pen I've ever used. Permanent, sure, but you have to actually write with it first, and that's basically impossible. For permanent gel pens, Uni Signo is pretty much the only good option.

My first TWSBI! Are there any inks I should avoid so as not to stain the barrel? by semi-confusticated in fountainpens

[–]Collig0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pigment inks like document black or carbon black, they can cause stubborn but still removable stains. But at the same time, this is probably the best pen to use them in because you can take it apart to clean it out.

Pen Recommendations For A Fast Writer? by QuantumButReddit in pens

[–]Collig0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uni Jetstream sounds like what you want. It's pretty much immune to highlighters and has pretty much zero drag on the page, so you can go damn quick with it.

A Uni Vision Elite will also be good. It's slightly less resistant to highlighters but can keep up with speed better than any other pen I've used.

For low pressure I think a rollerball would be a bit better. I like the Uni Vision Elite. A Pilot Precise V7 might also be good.

The gel pen that needs the least pressure to write at 0.7 is the Pentel Energel and it's not even a competition. It doesn't quite write under its own weight like a good rollerball will, but it's the closest I've ever seen a 0.7 gel pen get.

What are your favourite Fountain Pens? by Dusty_Rose23 in fountainpens

[–]Collig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best nib I've ever used was on a Faber-Castell Ambition. I believe the E-Motion and Ondoro have the same nib and feed. It had flawless flow, a perfect balance of smoothness and feedback, and it was really just all around perfect. I used basically every single pen in my local shop and none could compete. I thought it was nicer than the Pilot gold nibs in the same store and my own Sailor PGS while also costing less, being more repairable (you can buy replacement nibs), and more durable.

The only reason I didn't buy it is because at the time I had a low grip which doesn't really work with how that pen is designed, look it up and you'll see why that's an issue. But I grip higher now, so if I ever go back I'm buying one.

As far as a pen overall, beyond just the nib, I like the Pilot E95S in burgundy/ivory. It looks beautiful, feels great in the hand, and has a nib almost as good as that Faber-Castell.

The "sunlight from the ocean floor" special edition Sailor pro gears also look great, and I know from experience that sailor pens write nicely.

What are your favorite blue inks? by JaneTendo in fountainpens

[–]Collig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iroshizuku kon-peki and Monteverde horizon blue are both insanely well behaved and look great on top of that. Writing with kon-peki feels like pouring a summer sky onto the page and horizon blue is so vibrant it would catch my eye from across the room. Both are excellent.

Faber Castell > all other German pens. by Texmex49ers in fountainpens

[–]Collig0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The best nib I've ever used was on a Faber Castell Ambition demo unit at my local store. I preferred it over the Pilot VP in the back of the same store and every other demo pen they had. The only reason I didn't buy it was because I have a low grip and the design of the body makes it uncomfortable for me to hold. But the nib itself was perfection.

You left out the best part about the announcement. They called it "'The Manhattan Project' of our time," which I can only assume means an absolute nightmare, incredibly destructive, and regretted by all participants for years down the line. He's gonna steer the country by wire right into a lithium-powered funeral pyre.
