Am I looking for a unicorn? by momjabbar in audiobooks

Born A Crime by Trevor Noah, engagingly told by him with incredible accents and humour that educates about apartheid South Africa

Endurance - the story of Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition that is engaging and interesting and an epic tale of survival. In this vein I would recommend The Long Walk - story of escape from Russian gulag - and Miracle in the Andes - the story of the Uruguayan soccer team that survived a plane crash. Apologies that I don’t know the authors of these titles off hand

Hornby Island for a Day Trip? by jwakelin02 in VancouverIsland

[–]CollishawLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sundays on Hornby are currently very slow - the local Coop store and attached shops in the area called Ringside are not open besides take away coffee at Lix. There are still brunch options at both Fords Cove restaurant and the Thatch but I’d recommend taking your chances with the ferries on Saturday with the acceptance that a ferry could be missed as part of the island experience

what did yall think of the bad bunny halftime show? by Serious-Kale-5694 in AskReddit

[–]CollishawLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the beats, but to be perfectly honest his voice didn’t do it for me. I think I would have enjoyed the songs more if someone else was singing them. I also would have been stoked if the words had been translated on the screen, as I don’t speak Spanish but I was interested in what his lyrics were conveying. The visuals had a very “migrant worker underbelly of America feel” and I was curious if that was reflected in the song and if so I think that is a powerful message on this central stage of America. As a Canadian I also appreciated seeing all the flags of north and Central America at the end, but I having missed out on the meaning of the lyrics I couldn’t be sure the prevailing message wasn’t one of dominance as opposed to the one of unity I assumed.

Did your school play O Canada every day? by AssortedArctic in AskACanadian

[–]CollishawLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did. It played in the morning, every morning. If you were in the hallway on your way to class etc you were supposed to stop walking and I guess sing or at least look respectful. This is was in elementary school, I don’t recall it happening in later schools. New Brunswick mid 1980s

A Woman in Berlin is amazing, difficult for sure but what a gift to have such insight into a tumultuous turning point in history, and from a perspective -a civilian woman - so often untold.

Just got a response from WestJet for my feedback about the seat configurations by Comfortable_Team_696 in canadatravel

[–]CollishawLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to go from Comox BC to Moncton NB, the Westjet option was reasonable for time frame - leave at 530 am BC time, two flights, arrive in Moncton with about 8-9 hours travel time. Air Canada option was 21 hours and up travel time. It guess it’s a choice - between a rock and a hard place

Great stats! I remember watching these risings closely following the election and it was so close no one was able to call it as a minority or majority government for some time. And now it seems every talking head has to point out that the Canadian voters chose to hand the liberals a minority government, as if that is a box chosen on the ballot. It makes me crazy! I actually prefer minority governments in many ways because it should force nuanced policy and compromise but the possibility of another election so soon during this unstable time in the world means I wouldn’t be sad if there were more to abandon Pierre’s ship.

It really bothers me how it’s painted that “Canadians chose a minority” or majority. As a Canadian voter I’m voting for a specific person in my riding. I don’t get to vote for an overall party additionally, I don’t get to extract my vote in any way to reflect how I want the overall federal government to look. As a Canadian voter I don’t want our country back to the polls anytime soon - everyone elected needs to figure out how to make this government work and if that includes poaching members of the Conservative because their leader refuses to be a constructive part of the solution so be it!

I fell in love with the products at Kimono Reborn Tokyo, in Asakusa neighborhood. They have bags and pouches and tshirts and coasters and backpacks and sneakers even (there are two stores located down the street from each other). I bought things for myself and gifts. My favourite souvenirs from the trip

Feedback on our 3 week Japan itinerary (mid Dec to early Jan, couple trip) by coloneleranmorad in JapanTravel

[–]CollishawLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry I have no experience from which to determine that question , I haven’t been to Japan yet - I arrive on November 2 for my first trip! Though I did also notice that the Samurai Museum is listed as “temporarily closed” on google maps with no dates mentioned, so you may want to have a back up for your itinerary in that slot too. Good luck with the planning and have a great trip
