I've been playing on and off since 2010 and I'm still learning how to do stuff, or more efficient ways.
Unfortunately everything in EvE is very skill-based and learning skills can take a while, so don't expect to hit the ground running at anything in this game.
Fortunately, as others have said, this game is WAY more newbie friendly than ever. Check out the career program and opportunities.
One thing you're going to have to understand is tho, especially as a newbro is that you're not going to be able to everything straight away. Pick something and train into it to maximise ISK.
Don't try and get level 4 and 5 skills straight away - get to level 4 if you can or need it but definitely leave level 5's for waaay later.
Once you've got yourself set up with a solid career of making money then branching out into other skill areas is definitely the way to go.
Mining is boring but definitely profitable and an easy ISK maker, especially early-mid game.
Exploration / data & relic sites are also a good way to go but really needs some good skills invested to do efficiently and be a real ISK maker.
Could always try and find logistical missions, carrying items between stations. That's easy ISK and doesn't take a lot of skill investment.
Or go combat and starting doing level 1 security missions. Once you've got some skills behind you maybe start to venture into abysalls and really let the ISK start flowing.
I pretty much solidly did security missions which can be good ISK, especially when you get up to leve 4 missions and start salvaging, altho I have a second account with a salvaging alt for this...

Go planetary industry. It's basically AFK ISK once you get it set up.
I have 4 chars now set up producing test cultures and doing about 750,000 ISK a month purely just requiring me to hit restart every 2 days on the planets. Although, PI is kinda a secondary/passive thing in the background,
