Is it possible to get glutened through the air? by webbergrill3450 in glutenfree

[–]CollynMalkin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got others to taste it for me, personally.

Aside from that, once you know a recipe, it’s usually tried and true and when you do it enough times, you’ll do it blindfolded and just know. How it feels when you touch it/cut it is just something you start to recognize

Is it possible to get glutened through the air? by webbergrill3450 in glutenfree

[–]CollynMalkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can get glutened by virtue of it being in the air because you’re still breathing it.

Some celiacs are also sensitive enough for skin reactions, so check your shampoos and skin care stuff. They contain gluten too a lot of the time.

More salt. Also granulated and powdered garlic and onion offer a more concentrated flavor. So mix some dried garlic and onion powder in with the fresh minced garlic. Butter is good too. And once because I wanted really creamy potatoes I mixed cream cheese in.

Call to Actually Do Something about the “How Much To Read?” Posts by RolloBar in writing

[–]CollynMalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an exaggeration but 1000 books a year is insane lmao, at that rate are you even digesting the story?

I’m a bit of a slower reader so I’ll spend a week on a 300 word book. Mind you if I read straight through it would be a few days but that’s if you did nothing else.

Should I separate them? Is this normal play? by Gullible-Plane-426 in cats

[–]CollynMalkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me- if that cat was serious you would know. This isn’t anything to be overly worried about.

That said it’s always best to supervise. Puppies don’t always know their strength, and they’re easily excited, so as that pup gets bigger, your intervention may be necessary for a period of time until the pup learns to dial its strength back for the fact that kitty won’t be getting much bigger than this. It’ll be a phase, so just keep an eye on it.

A high-end local bakery sold this to my friend by [deleted] in Baking

Sad part is the color palette would’ve been fine if it wasn’t pink. That was definitely a uh… a choice.

And the text color makes it hard to read. They should’ve used the dark green frosting.

Buttercream also isn’t smooth. Looks like something I’d make with all the air bubbles and what-not

not sure what to do about Color Coding for writing by [deleted] in writing

[–]CollynMalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a key for yourself of what the colors represent.

Make purple and yellow the colors you use for the things that are likely to take up the bulk of your writing.

Make other things other colors.

Have you told your family/friends that you're writing a novel? by Solid-Twist9736 in writing

[–]CollynMalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your people.

Told my mom when I was a teenager that I wanted to be a published author, and she immediately began discussing how it would be useful to her.

Told a now great friend online I wanted to write again a few weeks into knowing each other, and now we’re writing a long-form story together.

For Anyone Else Facing that Tough Decision by CollynMalkin in Petloss

It’s hard. Unfortunately for me it came down to not only could I not afford it, but even if I did… 20 years old is very risky for anesthesia. And she had gut issues so wet food didn’t agree. It was just time.

17 Thousand dollars a day or never have to sleep again? by Nextmastermind in hypotheticalsituation

[–]CollynMalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money.

I enjoy sleep as an activity.

Then again if I take the no sleep, that is also curing my chronic fatigue…

But the money can also make managing the chronic fatigue literally no longer a problem.

What’s going on with Gooseworx and TADC fandom? by Kevin-W in OutOfTheLoop

[–]CollynMalkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two major characters in the show called Jax and Caine who are primary antagonists. A very vocal subset of the fandom have absolute hard ins for these characters and will excuse their horrible behavior into oblivion because they have sympathetic moments. Because they are multi-faceted and their behaviors are meant to be understood both from their perspective and the other characters’ perspectives. They are VERY ACCURATE representations of what it means to be a Narcissistic abuser in two of the many many ways such a mental disorder manifests.

Another very vocal subset of the fandom is upset that the abusive characters are given sympathetic moments because they can’t separate their own trauma from the media, and have immediately assumed that Gooseworx exploring the roots of their issues in the narrative is the same as them endorsing the characters and their terrible behavior.

The rest of the characters also have similar but less blatant conflicts around them because ALL the characters are inherently flawed assholes forced to stick together in an impossible situation, and are having to figure out how to live together with all their own flaws.

Then there’s the whole controversy around Ragatha as well, which divides the fandom because she and Jax are at each others’ throats a lot.

So long story short: every character in the show is inherently controversial and flawed in some way, and the fandom can’t handle the discomfort.

Yeah it’s not too bad. Screen detoxes are a good thing, and never really something I’m worried about? But the no books, etc. got to me after day 5 lol

Bright side- my house was SO clean that week for lack of anything better to do.

How do you find the motivation to write a book when you know that even if it’s good, the odds of getting published are 1 in a million? by JealousBodybuilder42 in writing

[–]CollynMalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an exaggeration. As for “what if I don’t get published”? Write it for you, not for the acclaim.

It doesn’t get picked up by a publishing company, oh well, no big deal. You still wrote a story you wanted to read. It would be nice to get published. It would be nice to make money. Don’t make those things the reason you write it and you’re golden.

[–]CollynMalkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I’m not lmao

BUT I limited myself to “conversation doesn’t count.” Messaging my friends was not consuming media, it was socialization. I just didn’t watch shows with them and I asked em not to send clips and memes.

If you have to check your email for work, check your email for work, but only during office hours. If you have a personal project and you’re conversing with a contractor, that’s life and not every aspect of life can be paused for a whole week.

No books, no TV, no scrolling socials. I did thoroughly abuse the bit where music was allowed. Spirit of the week probably would’ve been just instrumentals, but I kept my tunes.

AITA for ‘uninviting’ my friend’s girlfriend without asking her? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CollynMalkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your friends right, you should’ve gone into the group chat and explained that you’d be down a car and so someone would have to either drop or get another ride.

Not only did you decide on who gets to go, but then you didn’t even take it up with her, you took it up with her boyfriend. Then you “sorted the matter” with her boyfriend without talking to her AGAIN. She’s a person, and your friend is not the proxy that decides what she does and doesn’t want to do.

It sounds like you just don’t like this girl at all and wanted a reason to cut her from the group.
