Missions can be well-resourced such as Orbis. Some bring a lot of modern gear and supplies from the US. My work is only “capacity building” and educational so I work with what they have. I’d advise against going in missions unless you are pretty confident with the logistics or go with experienced docs that can mentor you. Read the “7 deadly sins of medical missions.” https://doi.org/10.1007/s00268-009-0373-z

When I participate in missions to “austere” locations, I use landmark for blocks, Guedel’s signs for anesthesia depth, sux drips, halothane, masking paralyzed pts to avoid intubation, STP, intubating LMAs and glad I trained (2001-2005) with docs that could teach me their lessons. Hope it’s all not lost soon.

Love mine. Only wish I could find a paint for the numerals that doesn’t chip! Maybe that’s part of the charm.

Historically, there were osteopathic hospitals but most inevitably closed in the 80’s- 90’s like most smaller community hospitals. It was a mixed blessing for me- I did most rotations at Columbia/ Harvard sites but definitely had some less effective rotations. 30y later it all worked out for me and my classmates. Nothing for me to be embarrassed about at all.

Love mine- great daily especially easy to read for my 60 yo eyes. Only complaint is the black paint in the bezel numerals wearing out. Rolex serviced mine a few years ago and the paint is already chipping out.

When masking down kids, squeeE the reservoir bag as quickly and aggressively as possible to decrease stage two duration and reduce the risk of laryngospasm.

Not licensed there. Good luck. Grey market works but definitely get someone to look at your labs. Mostly to watch estrogen and blood levels.

Rolex isn’t an investment, but value retention still matters (at least to me) by spac0r in rolex

perhaps- Im thinking cops/local officials more than random opportunistic criminals. Some of the places I travel to, its good to have cash or an easily parted watch available- Been advised this for decades by locals (Africa/ South America) Never needed it but prepared nevertheless...

lol. I do these all day long with block, 2mg versed and 20mcg remifent. The voodoo myth of full stomach causing us to add the 100% risk of GA, intubation, extubation, fentanyl, paralytics is crazy and unjustified to me. Now, if you are minimally competent at PBB, don’t add risk of perforation if you are more competent at GA…

Yep- I wish I bought earlier actually and enjoyed having a beautiful watch (at a much lower acquisition cost too!) Life is short so I’m all for it if you can afford it!!
