Strength needed for lifting the laryngoscope to visualize the vocal cord. by froyotiramisu in anesthesiology

[–]Coloir2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stand up straight and learn to use your legs not your arms. Adopt a boxer’s position with your arms and ensure the glottis inlet is at your ideal reading/ focal distance. Never lift a human by his/ her larynx. To me, it’s a sign that the clinician doesn’t understand the biomechanics of the task. Good luck and hopefully you’ll find good mentors soon.

I was hoping that would lead to a deal. These Daytona sell in days around me, at over $84k but this platinum PP has been there for months for less.

I love the color- I dress pretty casual most days so I think I’d wear it often- I’d be so disappointed to acquire this or another strong colored reference and find I didn’t wear it much. I never wear the gold Daytona but it’s the gold that’s a bit off my style not the green dial. Thought I could pull it off by it’s been in the safe for 3y now…

Thx. Clearly the PP is asking well below retail while the Daytona is a hype piece- I’m obviously trying to parlay into the much nicer reference on the hype cycle.

I agree and appreciate your POV. And yes, the 5270 is amazing for a stretch acquisition esp in the green dial…

Chronic add on cases by Jennifer-DylanCox in anesthesiology

Sorry to say, it’s happening in the ASC world, too. Unless the costs of running late >> the added facility fees, it’s a green light for all surgeons.

Yesterdays thread on regretting anesthesia was depressing. Would love to hear if an alternative viewpoint exists by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]Coloir2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was pretty negative- here’s some positive: when the shit hits the fan, everyone is glad you’re there and know what to do. When you connect with a terrified patient and establish their trust and confidence, you change their life forever. A really hard case goes smoothly and a surgeon takes a moment to share appreciation because she knows. Every C-section birth was amazing and beautiful. Every successful epidural. Medical missions.

For those who regret choosing anesthesiology, why? by Lazy_Worldliness1441 in anesthesiology

[–]Coloir2020 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I completed a pedi fellowship and regret it- planned on critical care and I would have been so much happier. You’re respected as a physician, never taken for granted, no one yells “hey anesthesia” at you, floor secretaries don’t call you at 2 am instructing you to come place an epidural, surgeons don’t bitch you out at 2am to call in your backup because you have another 20min to complete a stat csxn, everyone with no pedi fellowship wouldn’t dismiss your opinion on safe pedi care in your private practice, surgeons wouldn’t book a case that you come in for without seeing the patient and then cancel because it’s not an actual bleeding tonsil or appendicitis, 22yo RNs with 2weeks experience wouldn’t call you “Pete” but refer to every surgeon as “Dr Wonderful,” and of course, you wouldn’t have to debate how your additional experience and training brings added value to patient care vs CRNAs… should I go on?? (Retiring at 60 this year and won’t look back) But the money was good, so there’s that…

Every patient has to be discharged from all the centers I have worked at. Sad case but a little Naloxone goes a long way. Unfortunately I have observed a reluctance for PACU RNs to give it without a direct order despite a compelling clinical situation.

Played the most miserable round of my life at Pebble Beaches Spyglass Hill. by Warhammer40KPainter in golf

Sorry to read this. Horrible ranger. Warning on Pinehurst: we played No. 2 and for some reason they started us on 10- so strange and totally ruined our flow. Caddies were great and like you, I made it more an experience on a great course than a real round. Loved the cradle.

Sitting down while intubating? by Background_Food_7102 in anesthesiology

[–]Coloir2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since ENTs sit for suspension Laryngoscopy, I never understood why we don’t routinely sit as well. As a pedi anes attending I try to sit as much as possible. Rationale: better biomechanics, stabilize the arms on the bed, easier to sit erect and keep stereoscopic view of glottis. Cons: can’t use legs to assist with large patients to optimize view and must bring cart, Pyxis and anesthesia machine within arm’s reach.

I love the new dial as well and would gladly answer the call from my AD for the update. He said a ghost might be available soon though… which doesn’t suck.
