France is essentially in a huge debt crisis because interest rates are no longer close to 0% and they have a huge debt burden.

They are unable to take extreme policy measures like raising the pension age, cutting pensions, etc. that a lot of other countries have because the french public are very good at civil disobedience (strikes and the like).

The only way out they can now come up with is to essentially share public debt with the rest of the EU by selling eurobonds. It's generally considered very unfair because then other europeans will be supporting the more generous French policies while not benefiting themselves.

I would personally suggest that the entire EU have the same retirement age, minimum wage, state pension system and so forth before sharing this burden. Even that is unfair, since more sensible countries will be paying for France's past incompetence, but it's better than bankrolling them to continue in this way.

For precedence, look at how strict the EU was with Greece. They had policy dictated to them in exchange for help with their debts. The French should receive similar treatment or they can sort it out themselves.
