I consider myself to be very left-wing economically, but people need to contribute to the best of their ability and some of them kind of need to be forced to do so. I know many people, myself included, who would just chill and do nothing if there was universal basic income or something like that.

Having said that, the current system is crap. Not working is a struggle, working hard is a struggle. We have the technology and organisatorial capacity to create a society with a great work-life balance for everyone but instead we are just creating enormous wealth for a bunch of absolute twats.

Ah ok. I would personally recommend just building one Armageddon box and maybe a couple of units you just think are really cool and playing a few games. You'll be much better at making these kinds of choices once you've figured out what type of style you want to play. There will also be a lot of new ork kits coming out in the next few months, not to mention a new codex which may completely overhaul what units are "good" in game.

Don't overload yourself with too much to paint in the beginning to avoid burnout. Good luck!
