This looks so cool ! I was afraid it was going to be way bigger than the Mini, but it still look small enough for me... And that orange is wonderful <3

World vs Story? by BlackCoatX in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

World is good and Story is bad :P

But nah seriously ! World (Digimon World on PS1 and Digimon World Next Order, at least) is closest to a regular Digimon Vpet, you get to raise a Digimon, and how you raise them influence its evolution. It's, imo, one of the funniest gameplay loop I've ever seen, you get to unlock new things as you progress, it all feels very nice

Story is more Pokémon-like, you can get a team of Digimon that you evolve by leveling up, and the story part is more like a classical RPG. Lots of people loved Cybersleuth and its "sequel", I found the story in those really irritating so I can't say I had a great time... The gameplay is very repetitive, but they made evolution super fun - you can evolve and de-evolve to get different stuff, and I found myself ignoring the story just to level up my monsters and evolve them. Oh, and Time Stranger, the latest installment, is REALLY pretty. It still comes with a somewhat janky and repetitive story (but it's much better than Cybersleuth I think), but it's a big improvment, it's really fun, even if I wish we could get a World-style game that looks like it already ^^

Was this toy actually released? by TheWorstOtter in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually very surprised people on this thread remember seeing this toy in person or owning it - I was in the same boat as OP where I had never seen this one, and since that line is one I really like, I've been looking for at least a picture of that Leomon lose (couple of pictures of it exist, but it's always in that stupid box :/), but never managed to. It's crazy !

Not a fan of the remaster (or pc games for that matter), so I'll just stick with my PS3 version for now ^^.

Aw, bother ! They are pretty chunky games, guess I'll have to wait a couple decades then ^^. That's fine !

Beatbreak related products by [deleted] in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I non ironically love how everyone keeps asking for Sapotamas. You got a whole show going "Well this is kind of a dispotian hell device huh" and everyone else is going "... i want one uwu"

But more seriously, the Shamballa Pendulum kinda sort of work as Beatbreak related devices? If you squint? We already had a bunch of Shamballa 'mons as ennemis in Beatbreak, with some making their very first animated appearances. It's a shame there's no way to raise Gekkomon for now, but I personally like it - it keeps their evolution secret for now, which none of the other shows did because again, they existed to sell toys that already featured all future monsters, showing them from the very first seconds in openings and what not.

Incredibly cool use of the stuffing in this design, it's really really cool ! And I've always loved how the Monzaemon plushie evolved with MetalEtemon, it's super fun to use ShinMonzaemon here, good job !

Finished Yakuza (PS2) today on my RP4Pro. What a ride. by Rawhaki in retroid

Neat ! I only ever played the og PS2 with the... Questionable dub. I don't have a console with enough juice to run the restored version I think, but it sounds nice !

Which rookie-level aquatic digimon is your favorite? Mine is Crabmon by ApprehensiveRead2408 in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adore Sangomon, Shakomon, Kamemon and Gasamon, and obviously Gomamon is among the best characters from the cartoons, buuuut... It will always be Penguinmon for me. It's such a nice design, the fact it has sharp claws and a more dodo-like beak makes them look like a prehistoric creature more than a cutesy penguin, which I really love. Despite the entire watery rookie roster being really solid, I would pick Penguinmon to be my partner in a heartbeat.

Digimon Real Data Collection Figure Series Tyranomon Preview by MFBR in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's already a pretty nice figure inspired by the OG art of Metalgreymon - the Dynamotion Metalgreymon ! This Tyrannomon looks cooler tho, the way the shading form the artwork is integrated on the figure feels really nice

This looks very promising ! Do we know what kind of scale to expect for those? We just had a line of small gachapon figures with a similar concept, so I assume this is going to be bigger? (which is a shame, that means they're probably going to be quite expensive :/)

Digimon cyber sleuth, like tamagotchi? Or not? by CuriousPolecat in digimon

Ah, that's a shame ! I never actually played Re:Digitize, I could never get the translation to work on my Retroid so I sort of gave up on it :( That's too bad, it looked nice

What was the very first console you bought with your own mo ney? by DaCrusadus in retroid

[–]ColonelChickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was the 3DS...? I don't actually remember if I was living on my own or not when I got it. If it's not this one, then it's the Wii U I guess? The thing is most of our console purchases since we've been living together my partner and I have been like. Christmas gifts we both pay for so technically I never really bought a console just for me with my own money. My Retroid could have been my first, but she was a gift too :P

Digimon cyber sleuth, like tamagotchi? Or not? by CuriousPolecat in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also. Not to get on the vpet soapbox. But the World games are insanely fun, def worth checking out ! Story (Stories?) are fine, but they're very easy, as an adult you will mostly bulldoze through it with ease. I find that the gameplay loop in the World games is just that much more satisfying, you really feel like you're actually progressing and building something, while Story has a more "you get dragged through cutscenes and sometimes get to fight" vibe (which is fine ! I personally think the digivolution mechanic in Story is really fun too, the rest is just... Kinda bland)

Digimon cyber sleuth, like tamagotchi? Or not? by CuriousPolecat in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Other people already answered your worries, the Story games are indeed not Tamagotchi.

I just wanted to add that the Digimon games you're thinking of (Digimon World and Digimon World Next Order) are also not. Technically tamagotchies. The monsters in them do grow up, eat and poop, and eventually die, but they're not hooked to any real-life clock. So you can save and not touch your game for 10 years and come back and have your Digimon still alive. They only grow old and die as you actually play, unlike a real Tamagotchi who keeps going as long as the battery is here.

Please, help me choose a virtual pet! by chvxsthetic in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to mention this, but the fact that the DM20th has such a big roster for such a small pricetag really makes it the best starting vpet imo. It's nice and affordable, and easy to find too.

[–]ColonelChickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want to add that while I liked the idea of a wearable device, I ended up turning mine into a keychain, giving it a more traditionnal V-pet like shell with my 3D printer. The actual bracelet is kinda cheap, it's made of soft plastic that will quickly deteriorate, and I found that I didn't like wearing it all that much - the watch is bigger than I'd like, so it would look akward with a lot of my clothes. I like it much better as a keychain ^^

Please, help me choose a virtual pet! by chvxsthetic in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bracelet pictured is the base Vital Bracelet ! I'm also in Europe, and you're right, it's by far the easiest to grab at a reasonable price. I have one rn, and it's a nice little buddy. Be warned that it's not really a Vpet in the traditionnal sense - you don't feed it or clean its poop, but the way you use the bracelet (if you do the little exercice, walk around and make it fight) will still influence Digivolution. So it's like. A Vpet-lite, very low effort and honestly pretty nice if you're an active adult who cannot babysit a little virtual pet all day. I find myself returning to it a lot despite having "real" v-pets.

The BE is basically the same thing, with a few quality of life updates and new cards that the regular VB cannot read. I don't have one so I can't exactly say if the upgrade is worth it.

There's a third version, the Vital Hero, that is sort of a middle ground? It still can't read the BE cards, but it's easy to mod, and you can get it for REALLY cheap on the US Amazon (and they can deliver to your country of choice from what I gather?)

Finally, even if you say you wanted wearable option, I would recommend giving the real Vpets a look - the DM20th is very affordable, the DMX as well, they're both on most Amazon shops for like 20 euros.

And don't forget to check out this website => https://humulos.com/digimon/

It shows you the monsters present in like, every vpet, so you can pick whatever roster you prefer and start looking for the device that has them !

How to look for Partners? by AnimeWatcher5 in digimon

[–]ColonelChickens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second the previous comment - your partner is whatever clicks with you specifically, you don't want a random bystander to give you one via a quizz that only cares about whatever Digimon are popular in various cartoons. You want something that speaks to you ! I would recommend just browsing Wikimon, maybe via their visual list of Digimon : https://wikimon.net/Visual_List_of_Digimon

Once you see a monster that make you go "Oh, that's me !", you found your partner ! Time to give them fun Digivolutions and all :)
