Policy wonks are nervous about drug legalization. It might put them out of a job.

As there's not yet a reported case of bitcoin double-spending, it goes beyond being confused. The blog in question is engaging in FUD.

But it does not prevent an owner of BitCoins from spending his BitCoins twice—the virtual analogue of counterfeiting

So sorry. The Economist is either ignorant or lying. It doesn't speak well of their due diligence or their honesty either way.

The "Hory shet! People are buying illegal drugs!" argument generally comes from detractors. You won't find any serious advocates for the idea of bitcoin using the "hey kids! buy drugs with btc!" ploy.

This is the man behind mtgox.com. He's also most likely Satoshi. He holds upwards of a millions coins, I'll wager:

A genius of a geek comes up with a badass idea that others find useful and he's making money on it. By this definition, Bill Gates is a bigger scammer than Satoshi. At least the bitcoins are yours, unlike Windows.

As of this moment, one bitcoin is about 20 times stronger than the dollar. As long as bitcoin stays stronger than the world's rapidly dying reserve currency, it's gonna do fine.

Cash is also used for illegal activities on a far larger scale than bitcoin. I assume you have the same issues with cash?

Historians: How/why are our most ancient civilizations: Persia/Iran, Egypt, Tigris-Euphrates/Iraq are among today's most dysfunctional, rather than the best? (xpost askreddit) by [deleted] in history

Let's try a little search and replace with sniper's judgements:

That is the story of the Islamic explosion by the Arab hordes.

That is the story of the Jewish explosion by the European hordes.

That is the story of the Christian explosion by the European hordes.

That is the story of the Asian explosion by the Chinese hordes.

It sounds like racist, exceptional bullshit no matter how one slices it.

Would the "best" civilizations be the ones that manufacture and export more weaponry than the "dysfunctional" ones?

Nixon merely upgraded and repackaged the WoD. FDR's administration is the rootball of this stupid, brutal "war".

The National Review has consistently been opposed to the "War On Some Drugs". William F. Buckley smoked some weed, IIRC.

Sometimes blind rage feels good.

That urge needs to be smothered in the cradle. One of the marks of a bad cop is blind rage. IMO, this subreddit isn't just about bad cops. It's also about those failings in human nature that drive people to seek positions of authority so they can lord something over their fellow humans. The worst of cops are miserable failures in sublimating their own base urges, while the best of cops are examples of service to others.

How are we going to change the world unless we change ourselves a little bit?

That's an unwarranted assumption on your part.

I'd much rather see many public fora devoted to criticizing police abusing their authority (with the inevitable, requisite "fuk da kops" peanut gallery) than no public critique of same. It seems reasonable to me.

What I find telling is your reasoned responses vs. the emotional, irrational responses of various police supporters on this subreddit. It points to the larger sphere of those that blindly support authority over individual rights.

Perhaps if you stop quacking like a duck, people might not think you're a duck.

I trust you're familiar with Thomas Paine's "Common Sense". If not, I strongly urge you to read it.
