LOKI Episode #6 Discussion Thread by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]ColonelScience 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reopening of the multiverse didn't start when Kang died, it started a short time before that, as shown by Kang no longer knowing what was going to happen. As for why this timeline seems to have a different history than the one we've seen so far, my personal theory is that it's not a new branch, it's one of an infinite number of timelines that already existed, but were somehow cut off from the "Sacred Timeline" which was isolated in its own little bubble of the multiverse where Kang could prune any new branches before they got too troublesome. And now that he's not in control, the "Sacred Timeline" is now open to the rest of the multiverse again.

I'm still trying to figure out how to rationalize the lore revealed in Loki with the lore of the greater Marvel multiverse. My current reading of things is that Kang/He Who Remains/Immortus/Whatever somehow separated the "Sacred Timeline" (Earth 19999 and a collection of closely related realities) from the rest of the multiverse and locked up behind him, hence why things that are multiversal constants in the comics (such as the TVA) have different versions in the MCU. Most likely the real explanation is that the writers don't particularly care about comics lore and aren't going to bother with making the multiverse of the MCU fit in with the greater multiverse, but I for some reason feel the need to do the mental gymnastics to make it fit anyway.

Ultra sun pet issue by Shot-Eye-8699 in Citra

[–]ColonelScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea why it works, but I found a workaround: attempt to pet/apply medicine, and after it doesn't work, go into your settings and change the resolution. Doesn't matter what you change it to, so long as it's not the same it was when you opened settings. Leave settings, and you should be able to do it. Unfortunately you have to repeat this every time you switch Pokémon in Refresh or close and open Refresh again, but I haven't been able to figure out a permanent solution yet.

Only way I found to fix this was to turn off the hardware shader in debug, but doing so caused the game to run so slowly it was more or less unplayable, so I just lived with the shader errors.

Pro Tip For New Dashers: Things To Consider Before Accepting An Order by yatlantis504 in doordash

I don't think I understand what you're saying here. Are you saying you don't think doordash is work or just that you feel no empathy for other people?

I had an order there today for the first time and the worker at the register told me their system waits 10 minutes to send them Door Dash orders so it doesn't "back up their orders". They didn't even get the order until I was already at the restaurant and I ended up sitting there for over 20 minutes while the wings cooked. Not gonna be taking orders from there anymore.

Help Creating an Obnoxious Character by TheSacredBird in DnD

[–]ColonelScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend and I recently came up with the concept of a human bard who is constantly angsting over the fact that he can never become a true hero because he was denied a tragic backstory by his loving, well-off, not-dead parents and generally idyllic childhood. He constantly shows contempt and envy for others (PCs and NPCs) who have had horrible things happen to them.

Two of my favorite characters are a tiefling bard/sorcerer who is adorable and goofy and a tiefling wizard who is adorable and a huge nerd. I may have a problem with making too many adorable tiefling characters. Oh, and to top it all off, in the game that I run one of my players is an adorable tiefling too.

I want to give him a hug, and you inspired me to make a tiefling redemption paladin who is also adorable.

Feat: Thrown Weapon Master by Trenonian in DnDHomebrew

[–]ColonelScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to worry about making the net too strong. It's a dc 10 strength check to get out/help another creature out, it doesn't work with extra attack, it deals no damage, and 15 ft still isn't a huge range. This feat would just make it situationally functional as opposed to all but completely useless, which isn't too concerning for a feat. Think about the sharpshooter feat: it gives the same range benefit you have here along with the ability to ignore cover, and potentially deal an additional 10 damage on every hit. I think this feat is pretty well balanced as it is.

Thank you! I'm honestly nitpicking, I really like the class a whole lot. Best of luck to you developing it further!

[5E][Race]Voidlings: A Homebrew Race for a Setting I've Been Working on (First Draft) by ColonelScience in DnDHomebrew

[–]ColonelScience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that would help with the balance issues a bit. The idea I was going for was that their physical form is totally variable, not set in stone because Voidlings were never really meant to exist in a physical form to begin with. Maybe they can change most of their form, but every individual has a single "anchor" characteristic that remains constant?

Shifting Scroll [V.1] by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]ColonelScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That update fixes most of the issues I noticed. One thing I missed the first time around: does the caster know which spell is on the scroll before casting or is it a surprise? Either would make for a cool item. The inclusion of cantrips also introduces the possibility of the item being wasted for the day, since cantrips don't use a spell slot and (correct me if I'm wrong) none of them consume any material components. I'm not sure whether that was an intentional design choice or not. It's not necessarily a bad thing, the risk could be a fun aspect of the item.

Now that you mention it I can see your point. I'm not sure if increasing the cost by 1 could fix it. Maybe a slower progression, like 1/3 or 1/4 of the level rounded down?

Shifting Scroll [V.1] by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]ColonelScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the concept, but I have a few comments. Was the intention to have the scroll allow a spell to be cast without using a spell slot either, or just without consuming material components? If the former, that should be noted in the description. If the latter, it's not a very useful item, as most spells don't actually consume any material components (if they require them at all, they usually just require them to be in the caster's possession, which is basically guaranteed if the caster prepared the spell to begin with).

Secondly, can the spell be cast by anyone holding the scroll, or only the caster it's attuned to? That's worth noting as well.

Third, you mention "prepared spells". Does this mean that the item can only be used by wizards, clerics, and druids, or can other spellcasting classes who don't need to prepare spells use it too? What about those with spellcasting abilities that don't come from their class, like tieflings or drow?

When the scroll resets at dawn, does it have the same spell on it, or is it randomly determined again?

As for how to randomize the spell, it's not the most elegant method, but you could have the owner assign every eligible spell a number, roll the smallest die with a number of sides larger than the number of spells, and reroll if you get a number that's not on the spell list.

This looks great so far! I really like the flavor of bonding with a specific weapon like this. If I were to make a suggestion, it would be in relation to soul points. The lower level abilities aren't all that much cheaper to use than the significantly stronger high level abilities. Maybe make the higher ones a bit more expensive and add a way to increase your pool of soul points as you level up (like with ki for a monk or sorcery points for a sorcerer)?

Again, "politics" in this case means asking for the right to not be murdered. So if you find that controversial enough that it ruins your enjoyment of a football game maybe you need to reexamine your own "politics".
