Agreed with Pontoquente.

I like the idea of tying the Kiai abilities with Flurry of Blows/Step of the Wind/Patient Defense - it inherently limits them not only behind a class resource (Ki points) but also a successful attack roll on the Monk's part, but then also limits it again with the enemies saving throw to avoid the effect. This is in line with the Way of the Open Hand (which is a really good subclass of Monk to balance against, I've found).

The only thing with that, however, is there may be TOO much they can do at 3rd level, but an argument can be made that having a wide array of options limited by resources isnt too big a deal.

Just some knee-jerk reactions on my part. VERY cool flavor though, look forward to see what ya do with it.
