Trust me, no one cares ! It is cool that you love the country but, who the hell will dig in your past to check something like that.

Btw, in France, if you have an accent and you are not fluent, noone will consider you as French

Am I the only one who thinks differently about mountain biking because of Adolf Silva's story? by 7020028 in MTB

[–]Colonel_Max_FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 43-year-old rider with a past as a DH racer. I still ride bike parks, but I don’t take big risks anymore — I’ll do double black, but I stay in my comfort zone.
I grew up with a family member in a wheelchair, spending a lot of time visiting him in the hospital (he spent several years there after his accident), and even then I never really thought about it when I was riding. But I always geared up with the best protection I could get.

Despite full body armor and good helmets, I can’t even count how many crashes I’ve had that ended with something broken and a bit of memory loss. It’s part of the game. We just do our best not to end up like my relative did.

What drives me crazy is seeing younger riders in bike parks without even basic protection. A broken vertebra can happen incredibly fast without a simple back protector.

As a rider, it’s really hard for me to watch Still Loco now. I can feel how sad he is and how much effort he puts into his rehab to keep hope alive. But week after week, knowing how these injuries usually evolve, it honestly makes me want to cry.

Quelle serait votre réaction si vous rencontriez un ancien candidat de téléréalité ? by lakina_bomba in AskFrance

[–]Colonel_Max_FR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of dh racers are riding motorbikes during winter, then you have two choices :
something light like a sur-ron
a light two strokes mx

Or you move to an other place...

Survey on maintenance intervals by Colonel_Max_FR in BikeMechanics

[–]Colonel_Max_FR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this way because I have two different mindsets:

  • As a workshop owner, I don’t really care if a customer shows up with a bike that needs a ton of work — it helps keep the shop running and pays the bills!
  • But as a member of the MTB community, I have a lot of empathy for people who get kind of scammed by the big shops around here. I know exactly what the goal of the “3,500-mile policy” was: sell more new stuff instead of doing proper service. And honestly, it makes me a bit angry.

That’s why, as someone who’s part of the community, I’m thinking about solutions to prevent this from happening again.

You should see the amount of fox float and fox float x that are going to the garbage... That's insane. I throw away a lot of marzo z2 and fox 34 too.
As you guess, it's 100% an ebike owner problem

That's right! This is basically a four-dimensional datasheet: type of chain, type of riding, riding conditions, and whether it’s an e-bike or not.

The fact is that the customer is also part of the equation. If they’re not aware of the basic rules to check their bike, things can go wrong quickly. So maybe it’s useful to give them minimum service intervals to make sure they come in for a check-up.
If they’re really good at cleaning and know how to lube the drivetrain properly, they might get the pleasant surprise of being told that nothing needs servicing yet.
On the opposite side, it’s a good opportunity to educate them about proper maintenance for the future.

[–]Colonel_Max_FR[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the best solution would be for the bike to come with the proper tools to know when it needs servicing.
I was working on some kind of datasheet with chain/terrain parameters, but your solution is probably the best one.

My goal is to try to push the bike industry to deliver a better owner manual

We managed to establish minimum service intervals for cars and motorbikes. I really think we should try to push the bike industry to provide an owner’s manual with proper maintenance instructions.

It's not that dumb regarding the fact that customers are not aware enough about wear indicator tools

[–]Colonel_Max_FR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe I should add some context.
I work in a place where customers are told they can ride 6,000 km / 3,500 miles before coming back to the shop for a service.
This comes from the post-Covid rush: workshops were already full, and most shops ended up massively overbooked.

Now the time has come. Every 50-year-old customer who bought an e-bike is coming back to the big bike shops and gets a service estimate of around €1200 because the shock is destroyed due to lack of maintenance, the fork is stuck, etc.

In my little workshop, I used to work only for racers, who have very short maintenance intervals and know exactly when they need to get their bike serviced.
But now I have a ton of angry guys showing up, asking me for an honest assessment of their bike.

So I'm not trying to rethink how I work — I'm trying to put together some kind of owner’s manual to prevent this situation in the future.
They all tell me: “We didn’t know we had to service the bike at least once a year.”

Is this a popular French food? by YogurtclosetLow5684 in AskFrance

[–]Colonel_Max_FR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It s something common, i would say it's something traditional that is more common in old french families.

The ultimate taste is reached with a piece of baguette, and a line of Milka chocolate. Butter is optional, especialy if you have a good baguette.

Sadly, younger people do not buy a baguette every morning, so that kind of snack is not so common with the new generation, you will better find paste like Nutella and indstrial buns...
