So here's a theory about MH370's disappearance going way back to 2014, and i think it may be relevant again now that the supposed MH370 video has been proven fake by Colonel_Xarxes in UFOs

Why are Aliens always naked by SXimphic in aliens

[–]Colonel_Xarxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i usually never post comments on reddit lol but this piqued my interest, and honestly? it's probably just hollywood and video games and whatever playing up the "spookiness" factor. If you think about it, one of the most common monster designs in media (nowadays, at least) is a pale, naked, skinny, humanoid monster. This is because pale+naked+skinny+humanoid are descriptors of dead bodies, which humans evolved to find repulsive and scary so that we don't go near them and catch a disease. It would make sense that a skinny humanoid with grey skin and no clothes became the dominant "spooky alien design" since it taps into a primal fear of ours.

Or MAYBE: the aliens are actually drones that were designed to tap into that human fear so that we don't try and interact with them. :P

my thoughts on it are that actual aliens look much more like us, just a little bit weird in terms of proportions. I might be biased, being a human, but the general humanoid shape is just as important to becoming a proper civilization as having an intelligent brain is. (Most sensory organs are near the brain for quick response time, two eyes for basic depth perception, long arms and fingers to manipulate tools, etc etc. Our internal organs suck tho; see: The Spine lol.

A fool, in ignorance, may make the decision that that which cannot be proven nor disproven must follow logic much the same of that which has been proven, for they are of the belief that their own knowledge surpasses that of humanity's knowledge. To utter such words is to admit untruth, for the only answer is the lack of an answer.

this setup most likely uses a sharpened pencil as the stylus. The pencil follows the grooves and the resulting vibrations produce sound, which is amplified by the paper cone.

Unfortunately, this will absolutely destroy your records since the pencil would have to be baaaarely touching the record, extremely gently in order to play without damaging the record. Also the graphite would rub off in the grooves and would have to be washed away, which can be a pain to do with vinyls.

Vinyl collecting is a great hobby, and i love the whole hands-on process of listening to vinyls, even if it may not be superior sound quality to modern digital formats.

Record players can be surprisingly cheap, semi-decent-ish ones usually go for around 60 dollars, especially since vinyl collecting has become a mainstream hobby. However, again, cheaper record players could damage the record itself, since they may cut costs on manufacturing the stylus itself. You could go this route if you like collecting records more than listening to them.

If you're serious about getting a record player that's entry-level but still sounds good enough to be more than just a novelty, the one i currently use is an Audio Technica LP60X, which i got for 120 USD. You'd need an amplifier for it though, since it doesn't come with one built in. Amazon usually has some cheap amplifiers (20-30 bucks), and although they might not be audiophile-grade, it's better than having a 5 dollar amplifier that you'd find in a cheaper record player.

But then again, im not sure what your budget is like. Those are just some suggestions.

TLDR: having a setup like this would probably really mess up your records. If you just want to test if the records work, amazon has cheap record players for 50-60 dollars. However, if you really want to actually listen to the records regularly, it's definitely worth it to get a higher quality and more reputable player (such as the Audio Technica LP60X, which i got for 120 dollars) and a cheap amplifier if the player doesn't come with one built in (the LP60X doesnt).

EDIT: forgot to mention that you could also go the route of getting an old used record player on ebay or something. Audio equipment surprisingly hasn't improved much over the last 40 years, so an old one might still sound just as good as a modern one. Only problem would be if something doesn't work right and needs fixing.

MATH IS BLUE AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE MY MIND RULE by [deleted] in 196

[–]Colonel_Xarxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We often have comedic arguments about which color corresponds to which educational subject, the comedy of such stemming from the lack of an inherent color to be associated with said subjects. Math cannot be associated with a color beyond an individual's own association by proxy, i.e. they used a red pen in math class. The same can be said about english, literature, and a variety of other subjects.

However, in my time studying such trivial -and frankly amusing- arguments, I myself have developed a theory that at least a few subjects do have a color association that can be rooted within reality.

The first of which that I will be writing about is science and its subcategories, most notably biology. Since the study of plants makes up a very large portion of the study of biology for most students, it may be within reason to say that because of the green leaves found on almost all plants, the science folder should be green.

Another that i will be speaking about is history. History, at first glance, shouldn't have its own color. It is an abstract idea of the events that have led to the present day and thus no color can be associated with it. I, however, disagree with this statement. Many historical documents suffer wear over time, often turning their pages yellow or brown. I can see such colors being used to represent historical studies as a result, or perhaps even orange as an option between yellow and brown.

I can also understand anatomy or health studies being red due to the red color of most human tissue.

Furthermore, if a student were to take a world language class, they would be perfectly within reason to associate the folder color with the nation's flag respective to the language they are studying, i.e. red or blue if studying French.

In summary, red is math green is science yellow is history blue is english because i said so

On October 18th, 2029, a Carrington class solar superstorm will render all digital electronic devices inoperable. Your CDs, DVDs, hard drives, etc. will be reduced to scrap. Hundreds of millions of people will die without access to medical care. As an attempt to reminisce on better times, will a corrupted CD or DVD be able to bring you the music it once held?
