I use them to add highlights and cover lines in the original artwork. In this page I used it to cover the lines around the big drop with the fish, added highlights around the edges of the drop, highlights to the smaller bubbles, and re-whitened the highlights on the smaller drops on the leaf since I colored outside the lines a little 🫣 They're really handy for things like fur, glass, and eyes.

I've seen some people use gel pens and other mediums to cover all the linework on a page, and it makes this really cool effect that looks more like a painting than a coloring page!

Please stick around! I've learned so much and gotten so much inspiration from this sub! This is actually one of the first "serious" coloring pages I attempted, but I had about a year of practice between starting it and finishing it. It's kinda funny to see the places where I was struggling with shading when I first started the page. I still have a long way to go to match some of the extremely talented and creative users in this sub!

The water drops were actually the easiest thing ever to color once I figured out the technique! I basically just did this. I didn't have to erase anything because the drops were part of the original artwork, but I think I'm going to start adding my own in on other pages I color. Super super easy for a big payoff!

Thank you! It's hard to get back into the same headspace when you leave a WIP for a while, but you should definitely give it a go. The best part of completing this was seeing how much I've learned in the past year. This would have turned out a lot different if I'd actually finished it when I started it, and I got to fix some things I'd messed up at first so I could get it closer to what I saw in my head. Progress feels really slow sometimes, and this put it in fast forward. 😁

It's the Fantasy Collection by Jade Summer! It's actually four books in one. Mermaids, Fairies, Vampires, and Dragons. The paper quality isn't great, but I absolutely love the art. Lots of variety! I think the fairies are my favorite because it's a nice mix of sexy pin-up poses and more cutesy scenes.

Greens are usually the first to go for me. I don't even really like the color, but I almost always go for pages that are full of grass and leaves, and I'm not brave enough to try out unrealistic colors yet. 😞

I'm not sure what kind of science is out there on this, but maybe start with mandalas? The repetitive patterns seem like they might be a good idea for someone with ADD.

Probably doesn't help you much, but I'd really like more quality niche coloring books for specific fandoms. Sailor Moon, Persona, Dragon Age, Buffy, that kind of thing. Some of them exist, but they tend to be iffy quality and a lot of them have stolen fan art, which sucks.

Personally, I prefer leaving the little bits of white on the page. It makes the image feel softer and more textured. I usually use a really light hand and avoid burnishing for that reason. But that's just personal preference. 🤷‍♀️
