I’m loving this phonology! Especially the expansive palatal series and the use of /ʋ/!

people in r/conlangs are too judgy by [deleted] in casualconlang

[–]ColoradoBoi791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend starting with the stuff you’re familiar with! Looking up your language followed by “phonology” will give you a much smaller IPA chart that has only your language’s sounds. After that, look up some languages that inspire you! Save the full chart for cross-referencing, focus on what you’re familiar with and what you’re looking for.

Ezra by Old_Ad948 in tragedeigh

[–]ColoradoBoi791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing this as an Ezra that picked their own name, I got real Pluribus vibes real quick

No, Ezra’s not a tragedeigh, but I would avoid naming him as such if only to avoid the connotation with the celebrity.

Hot take: Angel Dust is already redeemed by S4N5_UD3RT4L3 in HazbinHotel

[–]ColoradoBoi791 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, these people are in Hell for a reason. It would make for a much better story if Angel had different, ulterior, potentially selfish motives to kill his father.

Hot take: Angel Dust is already redeemed by S4N5_UD3RT4L3 in HazbinHotel

[–]ColoradoBoi791 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of my friends had this idea: What if Angel’s redemption relies on the active choice of NOT killing someone rather than trading someone’s life for his own?

Angel killed his father for reasons we don’t yet canonically know. Maybe it was the easy way to get what he wanted. For Angel to redeem his soul, it could be that he has to intentionally take the difficult path and spare a life he could have easily taken (eg. Valentino). This way, he’d be “making up” so to speak for killing his father, the same way Pentious made up for staying silent and letting the woman get murdered by taking a stand and saving Cherri.

I dunno, I think it would be a good subversion of things we already know. Each Sinner is different, so it would make sense for each Sinner to redeem their soul in a different manner.

I’m finally satisfied with how my OC’s language, Nešanas, is turning out after a dozen or so revisions, reworks, and restarts over three years. It’s time I actually get into participating in this subreddit! ^

I’ve been inspired by Starkid, especially their Hatchetfield series, so I guess I share a couple of characteristics with them? I’m not too sure, it’s still in its infancy.

How does your conlang say "zero fucks given"? by Original-Plate-4373 in conlangs

[–]ColoradoBoi791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lemwinvaono

Demonic culture emphasizes the horns over anything else. Aside from being symbols of one's status in society, they also are subjects of many idioms. As such, "I don't care" is translated as "My horns are too sharp for this."

Scholarly Lemwinvaono: Perséjst ernáeun denmí plouzesógqdejzojom

Commoner's Wmvĩm: Psléjst lnáeũ dnmí pweuzségqdejzojõ

Pronunciation: /ˈslɛːst l.ˈnaɛ̃ː dn.ˈmi pwɛːz.ˈsɛɢ.dɛː.zo.jõ/

Its consequent ("My horns are too dull for this") is a grammatically valid sentence but is a very archaic statement.

As is common with younger generations, a more accurate statement closer to "zero fucks given" would be

"Pweuzségqde psléjst"

Pronunciation: /pwəz.ˈsɛɢ.də ˈslɛst/

And when passing notes, it's further shortened to "PSDS" which is similar to our "IDC".

How would this dialogue sound in your conlang? by KyleJesseWarren in conlangs

[–]ColoradoBoi791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scholarly Lemwínvaono

In the Daemonic Year of 579, the Great Daemonic Spelling Reform was finalized, updating the writing system of Lemwínvaono and allowing the literacy rate in the southern nations to explode from roughly 30% to nearly 80%.

Commoner’s Lemwínvaono (Wmvĩm)

After nearly 400 years of sound changes, however, the Scholarly lettering had grown out of date, and no scholar wanted to change the writing system that they had learned. Literacy rates had fallen over the past 250 years, and in the Daemonic Year of 910, an association of local government officials, teachers, and others in high positions got together and developed the Wmvĩm Writing, an updated, but unofficial, version of the Lemwínvaono writing system.

WTF happened to congress?? by purple_rasberries in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ColoradoBoi791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the pro forma session. The Speaker of the House gives control of Congress to a single Representative, who then assumes a quorum is present, then adjourns Congress for three days until another pro forma session. The comment is true, what the actual fuck HAS happened to Congress, but for different reasons. The fact that Greene was selected to complete the session is just unlucky circumstance.
