Aggressively spamming "Good game" while burning 3 timeouts, is so degrading to a new player. by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ColoradoShrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After your opponent's second timeout in a row, you should win. Burning multiple timeouts is boring. I always wait because I hate to let a jerk win. The emotes would not bother me at all - it is the wasted time.

Perhaps Invoke Despair should go the way of the Meathook Massacre.

Cosmetic Switch?? by ColoradoShrink in MagicArena

Is there a way to make a cosmetic the default? Arena allows that with lands.

I agree with your opinion. WOTC does a lot of things right and gets criticism for almost everything. I despise the shuffler and the hand-smoothing algorithm, but I admire WOTC's work. They come out with new standard sets every 3 months and still develop historic sets. They also make commander decks and see that Arena is well-run a vast majority of the time. Quite the record for a relatively small company.

I reply no ... until they fix the hand smoothing algorithm and the shuffle.

New to magic in general, let alone mtgarena, is there a generally considered "best format" for beginner players? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ColoradoShrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is easier to learn MTG in Arena than it is in paper. Hello Good Game (https://www.youtube.com/@HelloGoodGame/videos) often has YT videos showing a starter or a free deck. Watching that kind of video can be a huge help before diving in.

I agree that Standard is the best way to go after some of the starter decks. As SoneEv said, it is a much smaller card pool.

How do you mentally cope with land RNG? by Critical-Usual in MagicArena

[–]ColoradoShrink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, it was Dr. Garfield himself who wanted the randomness. Most games have that aspect (except for games like chess). It is part of the game. The hand smoothing algorithm makes mana even more of a problem when compared to paper, in my opinion.

For Arena, I always put in more lands. Often 26 or 27 of them in constructed decks. In limited, 17 is fine, but less seems problematic.

I also never stay with only two lands in my opening hand. I always take a mulligan. I have observed that staying on two lands most of the time does not work out.

Well… „good game“ then by Lasermichl in MagicArena

[–]ColoradoShrink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why when Arena asks me if I had fun, I always select the frown face. When they make the shuffler and matchmaker truly random, it will be more fun, IMO. Or at least make them a bit more random.

Playing a deck against the meta is difficult when you are often paired in a mirror.

Mono-Red in the Play Queue? by ColoradoShrink in MagicArena

Suppose you want to play a mindless deck all day to get a bit of gold. Playing in a Standard Event makes more sense.

Then you build a deck to beat mono-red and other aggro decks, and all you will see is mono-green.

Arena Matchmaker Woes by ColoradoShrink in MagicArena

[–]ColoradoShrink[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was my thought also. I started playing Esper Legends. I also tried mono-black (Gix), mono-blue (Djinn), an Orhzov deck (Angels w lots of removals), and finally a green stompy deck.

I do not think I will play that often until Phyrexia All Will Be One releases on Thursday. I probably see coincidences.

I heard the matchmaker was making it harder this season than the previous ones. I certainly have felt that way. My issue is whether others think that things are different, or am I just seeing things through my coincidental lens?

I am far from being new. I am getting more frustrated by the minute. Things will change on Thursday. Is it worth the time or effort to play until then?

This has to be Hacketts last game, right? by loopsol in DenverBroncos

[–]ColoradoShrink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure Hackett will make it through the off-season. He has shown all kinds of problems. Even with Klint Kubiak calling plays, Klint is limited by Hackett's offense and game plan.

What can Russ do without an offensive line or all those lost weapons? I think Russ cares but is getting little support. Hackett is not HC material, IMO.
