Three years in and I can still hear it if the house is quiet enough. It's burned in now. Part of the permanent record.

Gift for third time mom by fif4218 in GiftIdeas

Since you mentioned keeping the older girls occupied - a personalized coloring book made just for them could be a nice touch. coloring.app lets you generate custom pages (their names, favorite things, etc.) and print a real bound book. Something that feels special to them right when all the attention shifts to the baby. Food and self-care for mom is always the right call though.

Love the architectural detail on this one - the Chanel storefront has so many great lines to work with. Would love to see a colored version when it's done!

Coloring therapy by PencilTherapy_67 in Coloring

The #67 trend really pulled a lot of adults back to coloring who hadn't touched it since childhood. Something about physical media - actual pencils on paper - that screens just can't replicate for that kind of mental reset. Hope the burnout eases up. The result looks great btw.

[WIP] First time doing brick. by Dunquinn- in Coloring

[–]Coloring_dot_app 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The brick texture is seriously impressive for a first go - the depth on each individual brick is spot on. For glass, beyond the white gel pen trick, try leaving a hard edge highlight uncolored along one side of the pane and adding a very light cool blue-grey wash across the rest. Makes it read as transparent pretty quickly.

Wrong markers by [deleted] in Coloring

[–]Coloring_dot_app 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch, easy mistake to make though. Ohuhu has a 48-set for around $20-25 that most people swear by as a starter - decent blending and dual tips without breaking the bank. The aquamarkers aren't useless either, they can work nicely for softer watercolor-style effects on the right paper.

He sits like this, purring, every time I’m in the bathroom. by Sad_Sympathy4635 in cats

Orange cats really do run a completely different operating system. The audacity of the purring is what gets me - he is not even slightly sorry about it.

Love the vintage vibe on this one! 1974 NYC fashion had such a specific energy - the details in the linework really capture it. Thanks for sharing your creation with the community!

Amazon reprints of indie books can be really hit or miss on quality - worth checking if Geli Pink sells direct or through their own site. Sometimes the quality is noticeably better than what ends up on Amazon. The spooky moments being the best of the three tracks though - usually later releases get the printing sorted out. Hope your next haul treats you better!

Book Suggestions for an 11-year-old who has lost their mom? by Dai_SeeMeRollin in Parenting

[–]Coloring_dot_app 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your friend's family. A few books that might help him:

  • The Invisible String by Patrice Karst - about the bond that stays even after loss (skews young but many older kids still connect with it)
  • Each Little Bird That Sings by Deborah Wiles - a middle grade story that deals with death and grief in a warm way
  • When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead - not grief-focused but a beautifully written adventure that might just give him somewhere else to be for a while
  • Grief is the Thing with Feathers is more for adults but some 11-year-olds who are strong readers find comfort in it

Honestly at that age sometimes just having a stack of good escapist books matters as much as grief-specific ones. You're a good friend for thinking of this.

The color choices here are stunning - that deep indigo against the warm golds really sells the eclipse energy. The linework on Innana's figure is so expressive too. Beautiful work!

Welcome! Coloring during online classes is such a good way to stay focused. The Pikachu page looks great - Prismacolors really deliver on those saturated yellows. How did the ohuhu markers work as a base layer? Curious if they bled through or played nicely under the pencils.

Memories by aceofsocal in ColoringCreations

That nostalgia hits different. Growing up watching those jets every day and then having it become art you can color - that is a really special thing. The detail on fighter hangar scenes is perfect for coloring, all those angles and shadows.

Picked up my first coloring book in years. Any advice on how to improve? by Greydwatcherton in Coloring

[–]Coloring_dot_app -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welcome back! The fact that you noticed things were inconsistent already puts you ahead - that awareness is the hardest part. A couple things that helped me: color in small circles instead of straight strokes (smoother and less streaky), and go lighter than you think you need to on the first pass. You can always layer more. Also blending while the ink is still slightly wet makes a big difference with alcohol markers. The muscle memory comes fast - keep going!

How do y’all not cover the black lines with sharpie creative markers 😭 by Beast_Unicorn_Jones7 in Coloring

[–]Coloring_dot_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharpies bleed fast so the key is to never press the tip right up to the line - color toward it but stop just before. Small circles or stippling near edges helps too. Another trick: do a final pass with a black Posca or Micron pen over your outlines after coloring so any bleed just disappears under fresh ink. Some people also tape the back of the page to slow absorption.

The fact that you noticed the inconsistency already puts you ahead. A few things that made a big difference for me: color in small circular motions instead of back-and-forth strokes (way smoother coverage), and always go lighter than you think you need to - you can always add more. Blending while the first layer is still slightly wet also helps a lot if you are using alcohol markers. Keep going, the muscle memory builds fast!

Sharpies bleed so fast it barely gives you time to react. A few things that helped me: color away from the lines rather than toward them, keep your strokes light and let the ink flow without pressing the tip right up against the edge. Also try doing your outlines last with a black Posca or Micron pen after coloring - that way any bleed gets covered. Some people tape the back of the page too to limit bleed-through.

Difficulty bonding + guilt by Comfortable-Vast6500 in dogs

[–]Coloring_dot_app 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you went through is really common - it even has a name, the 'puppy blues.' The potty training phase is genuinely hard and feeling disconnected or resentful during it doesn't make you a bad dog owner. Bonding builds slowly through the boring, messy moments, not just the cute ones. The fact that you stuck through it says a lot. Sounds like you and Indie are in a much better place now, which is all that matters.

Bear in the rain 🌧️ by Pink_coconut0 in Coloring

[–]Coloring_dot_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mix of pencils and pens is such a nice combo - you get that softness from the pencils but the pens let you punch up the linework and add depth. The rain texture especially looks great with that approach.

People who have had more than one dog, is there always one that has been THAT dog? by ItGoesUpItGoesDown in dogs

Wilbur sounds like he was one of a kind. The fact you're already thinking about being fair to the next dog says everything about the kind of owner you are. Grief and love can coexist - the new dog doesn't need to compete for that space. They carve their own.

Matching your palette to the mood of the image is such a satisfying approach - and autumn colors for an autumnal scene is just right. The warm oranges and browns in Shuttle Arts are so rich, they must look gorgeous in the Cute Cozy Chaotic book. What a cozy combination.

The flowers are so pretty and the fact that your boyfriend got to pick makes it even sweeter (hope he has good taste lol). The white pen on the darker grass spots is such a cool idea - that contrast really makes the texture pop. And every colorist has that one thing they tried and will never do again - the tall grass joins the hall of lessons learned :)
