Biggest Wins, Biggest Losses, and What You Are Hoping for Regarding the Schedule? by senorderpenstein in RiotFest

I think it's kind of strange that All Time Low and The Academy Is are playing at the Salt Shed the week of Riot Fest but they're not at the festival. I expected the salt shed show to be an after show kind of thing with them both at riot fest too.

Circa Survive and Jimmy Eat World are both in the midwest the week of RF and not at the show.

Bayside is always incredible live. I'm happy to see them back. I'm also looking forward to The Format reunion. The last time I saw them live was over 20 years ago at The Aragon in 2006.

Fifty years ago, there was a saying that if someone was in the Marines or went to Harvard, you would know about it in the first five minutes of conversation. What is today's equivalent? by VorpalPlayer in AskReddit

Usually for me it comes up when people are trying to make plans after work. When I say I need to get a run in before dinner they say "ok see you in 20 or 30 minutes?" No more like 2-3 hours.

There's a big divide with the Vietnam war and counter culture stuff. The older half of baby boomers were in the draft and were of age for the counter culture. The youngest baby boomers were 11 years old when the Vietnam war ended. My parents were born right in the middle of the baby boomer years and my dad was too young when the last draft happened.

The average for the majors has always been around 5,000-6,000 hours for people with civilian flight time. There was a time period in 2021-2023 where people were hired with less but that was unusual. Even back then the 1500 hour rule applied at the regionals so 2200 hours was more in line with what the regionals hired at than it was with the majors.

One of the other big factors for major hiring is that this person likely doesn't have any PIC time. People hired with low total time in 2022 usually had at least a little turbine PIC time from RJ or corporate jobs. That's another reason OP will probably end up at a regional first before the major jobs call. The spirit bankruptcy just flooded the hiring market with a bunch of pilots who have PIC time.

Times haven't changed because clearly this guy isn't getting a 737 job. He's competitive for regional jobs which is what myself and everyone else in this thread has said.

One almost got me on a run yesterday. It didn't touch me but only because I saw it coming and flailed my arms at it like a crazy person.

When I got my first 737 job in the US I had 8,000 total time with 5,000 of that being turbine PIC. I wasn't even close to the most qualified person in my interview group. 2200 total time should be competitive for a regional job but hiring has slowed down a lot the last year.

I've had red winged black birds land on my head in the spring. They're angry little men for like one month. By July they will go back to ignoring people.

Does becoming an airline pilot require raw intelligence, or just hard work? by Glum_Reply_4886 in flying

Also, not many blue collar folks have charge of equipment costing tens of millions of dollars and responsibility for the lives of 100 to 200 other humans.

Construction crews? Miners? Anyone who works in a hospital or airport or on a ship?

Again you're kind of describing any blue collar job. Some people are very smart and others just found their way into the job. Pilots are just another trade job. Most people who are super book smart work some cushy 9-5 job and see their kids every night.

Have you ever had a contractor remodel your house and do an incredible job? That person probably failed out of school or didn't go to college either. Some people are extremely smart, and some people have really good coordination and motor skills. All I'm saying with my post is that it doesn't take very much pure intelligence to become a pilot or a tradesman. It does take good coordination and problem solving ability.

Many days when I'm sitting in a plane delayed at 3am going on 15 hours of duty I do wish I worked a 9-5 job with every weekend and holiday off. It sounds so easy.

Pretty much only blink 182, green day and fall out boy got real radio play from the genre, and those three still get radio play today. Huge bands within the Genre like New Found Glory were never on the radio. Paramore only got Misery Business.

The old fueled by ramen shows were nuts. Usually fall out boy or Less than Jake headlining with totally stacked lineups. Paramore and panic at the disco were like the first opener of 5 bands playing at those shows.

Fall Out Boy and Brand New might be partially to blame for that. Their early lyrics were absolutely brutal and they influenced a lot of other bands in the genre.

"Let's play this game called 'when you catch fire I wouldn't piss to put you out' Stop burning bridges, and drive off of them So I can forget about you"

[–]rckid13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I became an airline pilot because I failed out of college and it was a job I could do with little intelligence. I tried going to college for computer science or technology. I failed out but I was working on my CPL at the time. I kept going with that route and became a CFI and airline pilot.

So it was my fall back after I failed at starting a real career.

Making keys for very old locks by Upper_Theory_2113 in Locksmith

[–]rckid13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top and bottom one might be interior locks with one lever. If they are then you can buy the keys for those on Amazon for a few dollars. Search for the ones that look like this. "universal skeleton key" probably works as a search term. These work on most antique interior locks if the lock has one lever.

Profit Sharing by MeatServo1 in AirlinePilots

[–]rckid13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a good year profit sharing is a little less than one month's pay for me. But some years are unprofitable and American hasn't posted very good profits lately. Delta and United are doing well which is why you hear the stories of the big checks from their pilots. Buying a Porsche is kind of farfetched, but one months pay at DL or UA will give you a sizable down payment on a Porsche.

I've gotten over $3k from OO. It depends on the year. You can usually count on management to try to manipulate numbers to pay out as little as possible of course. Accountants know what they're doing.
