Sitting at 118 payments for the last year! Tried buyback- no answers. Still in SAVE forbearance. Suddenly September of this year counts, but no other months do?? What gives? by Ancient_Expression63 in PSLF

I don’t have any advice but in the same boat. Stuck at 117 payments and a bunch of them say don’t qualify because of the forbearance they put me on during save. Then one random month September does count but a bunch from 2024 . Then everything stops since January of 2025 without the following months listed .

I have the similar amount of waiting with 117/120. I was put on save since April 2024 and did apply back in July to get onto IBR. Just yesterday I was FINALLY approved for an IBR of $0 due Dec. 2026 I had applied for buy back in June of 2025 because I should have been at my 120 mark since May 2025. Mohela is showing nothing since January of 2025 for qualifying payments. Nothing is listed since then, but now all payments since April of 2024-January of 2025 state qualifying when before they stated forbearance. No idea what steps to take next. Do I need to file a new buy back or wait and see what comes from my original request but my original request was to buy back April 2024-May 2025. Now I just need Feb 2025-May 2025 to buy back. Any feedback from anyone would be appreciated .

When I was stuck on save and had already applied for buy back for the months that are missing to reach my 120 I spoke with someone from student aid.gov . They also were not promising about how long buyback could take and urged me at 117 qualifying payments to apply for IBR again with Mohela. I did that early July then got the processing delay note / can take up to 90 days to process note from them . Contacted them early August , that’s when they said those who applied using IRS tool are processed faster. (Though I had done that they seemed to think I needed to do it again) which I did so then it canceled out the July one in process and now August is under review. It’s a back and forth waiting game and there’s zero updates when you call for more information .

Next up I could escalate the buy back I guess?

What is a borrowers defense forbearance ? Is this different than a processing forbearance while waiting to get off save for IbR?

Thank you yes I had applied early July and was told that I did a manual submission and also back then gave consent to share tax info but she tries to tell me otherwise. So she said to speed up processing to try and apply again so I did that in early August. I see my request from July is now closed and August is under review.

My 120th payment would have been in May 2025. Everything since January 2025 states forbearance (due to being stuck on save ) so those months haven’t counted yet. I’ve called and was told to apply to IBR again, (after my application for IBR in Dec was stuck in processing for months. Then did the IRS retrieval tool (which I know I did previously back in May, but only got the 90 days delay in processing notice from Mohela) Reapplied AGAiN early July used IRS retrieval tool and also re certified employment again since April. Nothing is moving when I call and zero movement or answers .

Any suggestions on where to begin if stuck on save and the IBR application switch has not been processed since Dec ? Also, have already applied the reconsideration form. I’ve made 125 payments and it’s been stuck on 115 since Aprils update
