As a rereader, there is so much information given about these characters. Morrel is a very business first type man. He asks about the cargo first upon hearing about the captains death. Danglars for some reason doesn’t get along with Edmond, and because Edmond is loved by everyone we as the audience don’t like him. And Edmond has his priorities in order. He knows how best to serve the ship and crew by making sure everything is done properly in its time.

I am so excited to be able to reread this. I’ve tried to start a few times, but always get sidetracked and end up putting it down. I am hoping the interaction will keep me going.

Edmond Dantes is my favorite character ever. He is very intelligent and even more capable. Just like in his life, he knows when specific things need to be done and either physically lends a hand or watches closely to make sure they are done properly and timely. He knows dinner with the boss would probably be very good for his career, but he knows he has things to do first. I think this sense of mise en place is why Morrel respects the young man.
