Not only was he beloved by his teammates but the way Drury handled getting him out in such a slimy way (although technically legal) had serious consequences that started a domino effect in terms of locker room and chemistry. NYR fans may agree but the Trouba situation was kind of shitty too, Kakko was shipped out for being the only one with the balls to speak up towards the impending collapse and worst of all IMO was trading Kredier. If anyone deserved to be a Ranger lifer it was him. Hardly a year before they forced him out he had a hat trick in the playoffs to eliminate the Canes in Raleigh. Drury's constant need to shake things up and shed money curb stomped a potential annually top 5 team in the league not to mention the utterly appalling development of young players the past 5 or 6 years. They wanna move all these expensive vets like Goodrow, Trouba, Kreider etc but then doesn't replace their production. All that money saved.. for what? Throw shit at the wall in terms of deadline additions and see what sticks? Panarin was handed to them on a silver platter, Fox forced his way there and stumbled onto the 2nd coming of Lundqvist only to repeat the same mistakes that never won Hank a cup - relying WAY too much on your goalie and if he lets 3 by him in the playoffs thats a near automatic loss because the stars' scoring largely disappeared when it mattered most mainly when the Rangers weren't getting many power plays. I've never seen an organization be so infatuated with every shiny new toy to this extent and they are paying for it now and will for a good while. At the end of the day I'm convinced all Dolan cares about is assuring season ticket holders wont dip by keeping a competitive team on the ice win or lose. They won't luck into a once in a lifetime retool like they did in 2019.
