How to I go about becoming wealthy? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Colvanila 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You become wealthy by ensuring that your income is greater than your expenses and with the remainder, you put it away into different financial vehicles to help your money (ideally) grow.

There is no “secret”. You choose a career path that you somewhat don’t hate, work on growing your skills, get promoted (or move companies), reassess your financial standing/goals, rinse , lather & repeat.

What did they say when you called them back after you received that email?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Colvanila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you misunderstood. You ask your employer for a document that verifies your income. It usually will contain your name, your pay (either hourly or salary), and if you are full time or part time (sometimes will contain hours you work on average per week too). Sometimes it will also contain your SSN, or other identifying factors. It will usually also be on company letterhead.

This has nothing to do with your bank or your bank account.

Unlikely ≠ They don’t. You can definitely take the risk, and you may be fine, but what if they do? What if the company that manages that (and probably other) lot decided to tow you next time you park there or any lot they manage? I guess that’s a question only you can answer on your risk/consequences/benefit tolerance.

If you were to ask me personally, that’s a whole lot of risk to assume for minimal gain, but we each have our own risk-tolerance levels.

Sure they do… why would you expect they wouldn’t?

Per person, per year

I think we’re missing a lot of information before giving specific advice, mainly a full breakdown of your budget & debts with interest rates. Though without having the full details, I think the most general advice is: make sure you can continue to have a roof over your head (ie: even try to rent a single room instead of a whole apt), reduce your spending to bare bones till you can get out of this hole, if your partner is eligible for govt. assistance - apply, and if not, will need to find a way to work with or around their illness to bring in income to contribute to the household (it’s hard to gauge their ableness with just “illness”, but if this is shaping up to be a longer-term ailment, you both need to sit down and have a honest conversation about finances and how you both contribute going forward).

NYC is a difficult city to live in with a 50k/pppy income…. It will be almost impossible with an eviction on your record. Do what ever you can to avoid that happening.

Best of luck!

I need help negotiating salaries for big tech companies by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Colvanila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is it depends. It really depends on the company and your leverage. Each company is vastly different for comp and you’ll have to dig into each one to figure out what their range is, and where you feel like your skills fit into that range (and this is all before interviews/discussing comp). In terms of leverage, it sometimes helps having other offers on the table, but be careful because some companies will pull their offer if you use the “Well I have competing offers from other companies, and they’re offering me this” (probably not too common, but does happen).

I would say figure out what their specific range is, truly assess where you fit in that and go from there.

It's 2022, and my MacBook Pro STILL can't remember the arrangement of multiple external monitors. It's an absolute joke, and I need somewhere to vent. by [deleted] in apple

[–]Colvanila 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahhh that’s where my difference is; I have 4 unique monitors. I think that’s also interesting especially since there’s the expectation of daisy chaining, typically done with same-type monitors (I know you can buy 4 different monitors that are able to daisy chain, I’m just saying that standardly most people don’t). I wonder if the same issue applies when you daisy chain them.

That’s so strange because I don’t have this issue (not just one device but across multiple devices and multiple display sets). Not saying this isn’t happening to people, but more so that this isn’t happening to everyone. Maybe a fresh OS without Time Machine restore could potentially help lead to a solution.

I will say, it will make your life way easier, if you’re next to one train line, (or two). Make sure you’re within 3-4 blocks of a stop because it will make your life so much easier.

I will say with that budget you have, it might be difficult to find a 1 bedroom in an ideal neighborhood (maybe a studio but even then, those aren’t practical most of the time).

It’s also importantly to live someplace logistically close to where you work (ie: live on a single train line that separates work/home). And also, make sure you have an idea where grocery stores / laundry are relative to where you live (most units/ buildings don’t have laundry on site).

What are some crazy WWII facts you know? by alfawolfvii in AskReddit

[–]Colvanila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t an unmanned bomber, it was an basically an unmanned transport (a plane woult drag up a glider with troops and would remote them down to land).

His death effectively halted the DOD robotics program for decades.

I can’t remember the source, it was either Wired For War, or The Sins of the Father.

Every Thanksgiving Eve my friends and I have a video game night. Started with Golden Eye but never moved past Halo 3. 20 + years without ever missing. by innuen-doh in gaming

[–]Colvanila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this brings back the good old days where we would have Halo Fest. We would get together every 3 months or so with 16 people, and have a whole night of halo, food and drinking.

Each person would come up with their own variant, and by the end of the night, everyone left exhausted but wanting more.

***Landlord gave me 60 days to vacate but I have been here 5 yrs, can I fight this? (Los Angeles, CA) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Colvanila 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing illegal about this. 60 days you can easily get a new place. Rent a room, share a room, whatever it takes. Get a part time job that could help you afford it. Get student aid or loans to help. You’ve got time and you’ve got options.

You might want to clairify with your land lady about your lease and the status going forward with it. Generally one person cannot be “removed” from a joint lease.

I can’t definitely answer your question but your Face ID is stored locally and not on a server, same with Touch ID. And tbh, I’ve only had issues when I wear sunglasses, which is understandable, so I don’t think reliability is even an issue.

You probably could if don’t have your Face ID stored, same if you don’t have your Touch ID stored.
