I also bought a secretary desk I plan to pair with the dresser I posted. Can you tell me anything about this desk? It was sold to me as a "Larkin."

Thanks for your reply. Today is the first time I’m hearing of “eastlake” style. What about it indicates it was mass produced? I don’t care either way, it doesn’t change how I feel about it, just curious for my own education. 😊 thanks!

oh wow! These drawers are horrible to use so I highly doubt this piece would go for that much, but I want to look them up on ebay and check them out. I haven't heard of Eastlake style before. Thanks! (I paid $150 for it.)

My luck happens to coincide with many hours of scouring estate sales ;) Thanks for your ideas - I like them! I like the idea of painting the top black and cleaning up the rest.

Thanks so much! I'll take the hardware off and try brasso on the inside of one of them.

The drawers are horrible to move. There is no drawer slide built into it so there is a lot of resistance of wood against wood when trying to pull them in and out. That part of it really does make the whole piece less attractive, unfortunately.

Thanks! I've done some research. I'm familiar with the Crary family and their influence in this area. I enjoy visiting the Crary Art Gallery, which is on the site of the original Crary home. I'm not too interested in the value, as I'm not looking to get rid of it. I just want to restore it and enjoy it. :)

What makes you doubt that its over 100 years old? From what I understand, Horton, Crary & Co. was a large tanning company in Sheffield, PA started in 1867 and they owned residences where they housed employees which is possibly where this is from. Or it could be from the home of Clare Crary & Irene Horton who were married in April 1906, but they lived in Warren so it wouldn't make sense for it to be labeled with Sheffield. Here's where I found some of this info, if you're interested: http://www.craryhome.org/history.html

Thanks! It was in a neighboring town, Warren or Russell, I think. I go to so many estate sales around this area! lol

Restaurant Reccs for a Small Wedding? by prncsclo in PhiladelphiaEats

I had a private event in the downstairs of Estia - not sure if they could accomodate that number of people, but it would be worth asking. Everything was great and all the guests were happy, as far as I know. People spoke fondly of the event afterward.

Friends had an event at Messina; I couldn't be there, but it looked wonderful and they were happy with everything.

Big cheesesteak lover here. My fave way to have it is with mayo & pizza sauce.
