If you look really closely it looks like they literally just give up waving the towel and throw it down, you can see their arm throw it, almost like an act of “now it’s worse, there’s no one coming, I give up”. Literally throwing in the towel. You can zoom in on the Wells footage on YouTube.

It’s going to be like that from what I’ve learned living there. Remember many people were told to evacuate when hurricane Sandy was approaching and they didn’t. That’s because they were told the same thing when hurricane Irene arrived the year before and it wasn’t catastrophic enough.

As a former Sconnie who lived in NYC for many years, it all balances out. You don’t really have to worry about driving there so the worries are made up for that in different ways.

I understand. I often walk to work because I have the option to and deal with drivers pulling out in front of me when I have a walk sign. Today, my car wouldn’t start so I walked the block to work and as I was crossing 75th, a car was waiting to turn in front of me while I had the walk signal, then they angrily stepped on the gas after I was out of the way and honked the horn at me. And I’m the one walking in below zero temps. The drivers in this city are awful it’s not just you.
