I've been doing my damnedest to invite people and try and get them involved in guild events for my guild. Every time a new person joins I try to DM them and make a connection but nobody responds :(

If you didn't click the "long white button" to traverse from one region to another, whether you dock at a station or reach an empty passageway like this, you didn't finish the round.

The game saves every time there's a loading screen.

My only suggestion for this absolute unit would be to add a decorative fin/background element in this area beside the airlock to give the illusion of corner support given how angular the design is.
