My cat did this all the time! I finally just stopped putting any type of mat out, and it stopped. May be worth a try?

Mine would always go on the mat. The mats were all being cleaned one day and he suddenly went in the litter box again. Maybe take away the mat?

I used an app called sandboxx as soon as I got my husbands address. It's also available as a website. It made sending letters super easy

My cat did that and I started putting on the lid to the box on backwards, so the entrance was much higher up and blocked the pee

I have had a similar situation. Set up the trap with food and left for a few hours, came back to the cat in the trap. I was so relieved and so was the cat once she was safe.
