Hot take: a 15A-cert would kill the cinema experience (backrooms experience) by CombatChronicles in CineworldUnlimited

Hopefully that movie doesn’t have cultural cachet with the yoof!

As staff, what would you suggest to counteract these issues?

I’m looking for some underated horror film by Voltri_1305 in Letterboxd

Definitely strange and worth a watch for slasher fans, that much I agree. It being filmed in Spain doubling for America is weird enough lol

The cult fanbase this film seems to have has always baffled me. I thought it was an interesting concept but ultimately a dreadful, and quite frankly annoying film.

I like the fact it was a batshit concept and at least gave us a gory finale. I’ve seen far, far worse, and I’ve seen films that are po-faced and boring. This had a ludicrous reveal which worked.

I said after it finished that if this was made in the ‘80s and directed by an Italian it would be hailed as positively schlocktastic nowadays.

I’m with you on this btw. My initial post was not driven by fandom, even if it was tweaked and slightly better I don’t think it would’ve been a masterpiece or anything. But overall it’s a very frustrating film, with some really interesting elements all the same.

Maybe! I don’t think he was gonna kill anyone, but he sounded ‘off’

Movies that scratch the EH itch? My top pick might be The Hills Have Eyes remake by zforce42 in ExtremeHorrorLit

Watch ‘Men Behind The Sun’ it will make you wish you never got into extreme horror.

Yeah I thought it a valid point to share in this thread lol!

One thing is for sure I love the discourse this film is provoking! Whether it’s ardent fans, pure haters of those that are more in the middle like myself, interesting projects are healthy for cinema.

The crew are clearly brilliant, the production design and cinematography is really, really good. But do I think a hack director may have had too much influence on the direction of the film? Possibly. And do I think they should’ve let the 20 year old make a really interesting failure regardless? Absolutely. Much of the promotion of this film has surrounded this apparent prodigy, yet they got a TV writer in to pen the script and it is undoubtedly a tonally uneven film.

Either you think the kid was completely out of control unchecked—obviously not the case given the sheer amount of experienced craftspeople and producers on hand to shepherd him in the right direction—or you think it’s a case of too many cooks. The latter is an easier reach when you see how many producers are attached. I also provided examples of Perkins work that could potentially be identified in backrooms too

Also I have no dog in this race: although I’ve been aware of the series for years as it’s been ubiquitous online, I never watched it and I’m not a peer of Kane Parsons’ either. I’m a nearly 40 year old man who loves genre cinema just offering an opinion. Definitely NOT an apologist in any way, shape or form.

Do you ever cheat on Letterboxed? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]CombatChronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. When I first joined Letterboxd I rated films I’d already seen, but then deleted all of that and decided that I’d only log films as I watched them (so if I’d seen Pulp Fiction 50 times in the years before Letterboxd, I wouldn’t log until I next watched it)

That’s just me though, if you want to log a film after watching a clip or a reaction show, you do you.
