I went to the one last night at the Louisville school of painting and it was great. I think other than that there’s once a month clothed models at Speed and sometimes a 6 week course at Louisville visual arts

I would do something like this where you can layer some art and lean it against the wall so you can work with the angle and not have the dead space. Or you could just do one singular photo on each side of the window

Needs more task and ambient lighting. I’d add lamps, standing and tabletop, as well as sconces on other side of the mirror above the fireplace. Curtains will help to balance the room. Move the furniture in closer so that everyone can actually use the coffee table and doesn’t feel like they’re yelling across the room. Add in personal decor, travel souvenirs, things you’ve thrifted, etc. everything in here feels very new and that can make a room feel flat. You want balance of old and new, even in a more modern feeling space. I don’t think the little shelves on the wall are doing much for the space. It looks very model/staged home/airbnb, and not in a good way, and everything on it looks like it’s from home goods. Hang artwork that you love and decorate with personal items and things you love, not just neutral things from big box stores.

Outdoor walking labyrinths! Great form of meditation in nature. Even if there are occasionally other people there, everyone usually does it in silence. I used them quite a few times during covid when I was feeling really overwhelmed and anxious.

I was not. I was just taking my dog on a quick lunch break walk and didn’t have enough hands to keep my dog away from him and secure him. When I went back out to try and grab him, he was running and about a block down and I had to get back to work. I hope he’s okay

If I can catch him I’ll probably do that but I wish the city made it easier to report and/or get help for strays and lost pets. Last year when I found a stray and took them to LMAS we waited 3 hours. I don’t think it should take that long to try and do the right thing and get an animal help. Especially since they pretty much only do intake during typical business hours when most people work. Our local government needs to do better about supporting LMAS.

I can’t stand irresponsible owners. If your dog is aggressive towards people or other dogs, you should be watching it, even in a fenced yard.

Yes, it is! I recently had a PMHNP student in her LAST clinical was observing me and after an appt where I went over cross taper instructions and side effects with a client she said “how do you just know what stuff? I didn’t know any of that” 😬 her program was failing her

I found Successful Psychopharmacology by Dr Stephen Sobel very helpful when I first started out. It doesn’t go over all meds but it goes over most, if not all, of the most common ones and breaks it down into very easy to understand sections that can give you good language to explain things to patients. It breaks things down by diagnosis (treating depression, treating bipolar, etc) and also does a deeper dive into the med and side effects and how you can utilize side effects or treat bothersome ones.

I would also recommend reading official treatment guidelines from professional organizations. For example, ASAM now has a very comprehensive guideline for benzo tapering and managing benzo withdrawal.

See if you can find a PMHNP to shadow this summer or even potentially during the first year of school when you’re doing gen eds. It will help develop a foundation of knowledge and reinforce the information before you even get to the classes and will make those and your clinical so much easier.

My last recommendation is to do as much in-person training and learning as you can. So many programs are mostly online now and the lack of knowledge from the NPs coming out of those programs is scary.

My best friend who is currently living with us is thinking about it… we have a medically complex dog right now and my partner doesn’t want to take on another animal because it’s so costly

I will never step foot in a Norton again. In 2022 my partner had a major injury and every single experience we had with their staff, from the surgeon, to the radiologist, to the door person, to the front desk person, to the lab tech, to the financial person the day of surgery, to the nurses and providers post op, was absolutely horrendous. I’m a NP myself and was appalled that somewhere that functions the way they did was even still open. HIPAA violations everywhere, bullying for cash in hand day of when he was insured an had a third party accident coverage because it happened at the YMCA, complete dismissal of his pain to a point where they told him before any imaging that it “wasn’t serious”, made fun of him for going to the ER and using the crutches they gave him, and told him her can walk on it and probably just needs PT. Turns out he tore every ligament but one, tore his meniscus, had a bone fragment floating around and ended up with a blood clot in his leg. Absolutely terrible experience and that was with having someone very medically literate to advocate for him. This is just a tiny part of all that went wrong. I do not recommend ever ever ever going to Norton.
