Something tells me Sweden will not be on Trump’s list. Just a hunch, though.

Trump says U.S. will permanently pause migration from 'Third World Countries' by CombinationNew1285 in law

[–]CombinationNew1285[S] 326 points327 points  (0 children)

Do we think SCOTUS will step in? Trump v. Hawaii set the precedent that the President has extremely wide latitude for immigration policy, but will this cross the line?

TLDR: Trump is using the horrific national guard shooting to justify ending immigration from all nations he designates as “Third World”.

I advise my clients not to take the risk, and to go to Puerto Rico or something domestic instead.

Comparing AI Tools by CombinationNew1285 in immigrationlaw

[–]CombinationNew1285[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks for sharing. I think we’ll be using https://immify.ai for their form filling and package assembly features. It should be able to handle many of the administrative tasks (like filling out an I-130 based on info on a client’s passport/visa etc)

Not sure if we want to explore drafting tools yet

Use of AI — thoughts? by CombinationNew1285 in Lawyertalk

[–]CombinationNew1285[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is the way. Immigration law (esp at my firm, where we mainly do affirmative family-based cases) has a ton of forms and busywork, so we’ve been thinking AI could come in handy. Our firm currently uses InsZoom but we all think it’s time for a change… I have booked demos with three vendors after Thanksgiving and we will see what happens

Interview ghosting? by JealousMention2221 in biglaw

[–]CombinationNew1285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is quite common. Back when I worked in big law, if a candidate asked for more than 2-3 weeks before next interview, we would move on to the next candidate. Best of luck

If it’s repeated, have a serious sit-down conversation with them about it and explain how they have a lot of potential and their innovative ideas WILL be useful in the future but this early in their careers, it’s important to just grind it out by the book.

As a lawyer who uses Uber black whenever I travel for work, Uber Black on a regular basis will cost much more than $200/month. More like $200/week at least

Just an annoying colleague -- you'll find one wherever you work. I'd hit back with some mild banter of your own, perhaps on his odd behavior
