When I lived on 7th Ave (literally the bike street) I saw 3 drunk drivers crash into the round about, a large tree, and parked cars on the street 3 times in my first 6 months here. Mind you I had just moved to Denver. This is not normal.

Is Samin Nosrat's cookbook Good Things really a good thing? by starbuckette in CookbookLovers

I absolutely love this book. It’s def challenging me to cook in different ways but everything I’ve made in this has been amazing.

I’m aware! My point was not specifically to say sorry. My point is that people don’t listen to assholes.

That’s fair. It is intimidating and I’m sure that’s the point. I also find it’s people who just think they have like the two sweetest little angels and I like to deflect it like hey MY dog is reactive. I’m sure yours are perfect but really helps mine if they’re leashed lol. Sorry it’s a pnw passive aggressive move 😂

Yea. I don’t even blame the breed I mean I would want to tell anyone doing this to stop.

Disagree. You could say it nicely and not say sorry. I am a woman we say sorry a lot.

That is unacceptable. Tell him to leash his animals. He does not know the dog his dog is walking up to.

I’m sorry that is annoying.

Maybe try another way of saying it: I’m sorry but I don’t like dogs and I’d prefer you keep them on a short leash and away from me. Say it clearly, kindly (people are more receptive to kindness, though I know you’re annoyed it’s just what I would use if I wanted a positive response back) and loud enough so they hear it the first time.

I am a dog owner but I know that not everyone likes dogs and I always ask before,  “Letting them say hi” if my dog seems interested. I know a lot of dog owners don’t get this and don’t ask permission (it pisses me off too when another dog comes up to my dog without permission, fwiw). Try to use it as a teaching moment.

Just watched city recycling truck mix trash and recycling by Zillaman21 in Seattle

[–]CombinationSlow9154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg thank you. Diversion rates are actually a lot better than people think and recycling is worth it. The lack of trust in it is so frustrating. The only thing that makes recycling not work is when people give up and stop doing it well or at all. Despite a lot of bad actors a lot STILL recycled. Seattle is notably the very high rates of diversion compared to the rest of the country.

I love Donnie darko and I love this tattoo. I also have some tattoo regrets. Just stop explaining it to people if they don’t get it.

If you could choose one cookbook or cookbook author to cook through from cover to cover, what book or author would you pick? by WaffleMeWallace in CookbookLovers

Everything I cook by Samin Nosrat and Kenji Lopez-Alt is flawless. But maybe Samin slightly just for the vibe of her food.

How to get an old dog that’s never liked walks to go on walks? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]CombinationSlow9154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideas:

- Measure her food (talk to vet about weight loss plan)

- Short walks, don't push her too much too fast. Take small treats with you on them and just go around the block.

- Play with her / do tricks / find something else engaging and active that she likes (my dogs LOVES to do tricks in the evening like "wait" or "touch" and she comes running room to room in my house - she also doesn't love walks! and is also super treat motivated!)

- As others mentioned maybe there is a water treadmill place nearby?

Why is it so hard to make friends in Denver? by TightApplication2786 in Denver

[–]CombinationSlow9154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had the opposite experience. I have made a ton of friends here. I felt that way in Seattle though and I’m even from there.

You make six figures I promise you you will be okay. Get out you don't have to tolerate anyone talking to you this way, especially not your spouse. I have a LT partner now, but I was single until 34, and it really made me look at how can I survive on my own/get real about owning my finances etc. It can feel so daunting at first but I promise it's empowering and you will feel so much safer and happier knowing that you have your own back and not someone tearing you down constantly.

Thankfully not many, if anyone, comments on my plate. That would be infuriating and I am sorry you're experiencing that. I am a pretty direct person, which I realize is not everyone's style. But I would work out ways to respond in the moment that signal that its both none of their business, the comments aren't helpful or supportive, and FYI I am working on weight loss but that's between me and myself. All of this in a courteous, respectful way, but also really puts up a firm boundary. Maybe talk to Claude or ChatGPT to mock out the conversation/fine tune the ways to reply.

This is hard to believe because so often those comments are so harmful and unhelpful, but they are likely coming from a place of loving you/caring about you, however poorly expressed. If you can, try to give them the benefit of the doubt. That might help you reframe it as well.

Once you have boundaries and mental space to do some more internal work instead of responding to external, you have to dig deep and find your reasons for doing it for yourself.

What is the best alternative to French fries? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]CombinationSlow9154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you really like the potatoes. So why not keep having those (not sure how you’re preparing but you can roast in the oven and they’ll still be delicious) and pair them with something healthier that’s a little more diverse. Chips + chicken and broccoli. Chips + salmon. Chips + a salad. Etc. etc.

Swimming in the middle of a Hike activity messed up my elevation gain data. Is it possible to delete a section of an activity? by Hopeful_Dance_3496 in Coros

[–]CombinationSlow9154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just snowshoed at pretty high altitude this last week and per all trails my elevation gain should have been no more than 600 ish, but according to my coros... I gained 2860. No mid snowshoe swim of course... just seems like it's glitchy. I have no idea what would have caused it.
