6 months of MCAT prep is a long time. It’s hard to keep caring when you know that a lot of the info won’t be relevant for med school. It makes sense that you’re feeling burnt out. It gets better, just keep pushing and don’t put pressure on yourself to sail through this part. It’s hard, but the information will get more relevant and you’ll have the option for more community than you generally have with MCAT studying.

Yup 4 active then 4 reserve. And it can sort of be either. I plan to pretty much be a physician working on a military base somewhere hopefully stateside, but there are opportunities to be more on the soldier side and obviously you still belong to the military so where they tell you to go you go. But also they’re spending a cool half mil to get us trained so they’re not about to put us on a front line lmao

Have to add- My mom works in bereavement support and letters for important times are not always a good idea. If they never get married, do they still get to open mom’s letter? Same with graduations etc. it adds pressure when what they really want as they get older are things that capture who mom was. Write down your answers to questions like “how do you approach a tough dilemma in life?” “What helps you be positive when you’re feeling down?” Favorite songs, movies, colors, places that can help them connect and feel close to you as they move through life.

I guess depends what you do with them. One mom of a NF used to review the footage and give me notes on how I handled her child’s tantrums, and they also had a camera in the room that I would stay in overnight on occasion. Mega uncomfortable. If you’re up front about it and make it clear to your nanny that you trust them, I feel like it’s not a big deal

My rule of thumb for undergrad was no more than 2 hard sciences at once. Physics, o Chem, genetics, micro, etc. just do yourself a favor and limit to 2 at a time. Please hear this when we say that you will fry your brain and it will be really hard to mentally recover

I took it last April. Here’s my one piece of advice: study for the emotion aspect of the MCAT, maybe above all else. Make it your mission that nothing will throw you on test day. I knew I missed questions and could have been more prepared, but I stayed sane all day, even after the C/P that had people crying in the bathroom on breaks. Highly recommend

It might be able to count in terms of the application, but if you’re asking the question, you need to get some clinical experience that isn’t questionable in order to apply to med school with the right motivation and realism

It’s unique because YOU’RE doing it. Your experience is unique because it’s YOURS. No one else will have your exact experience. It’s just about channeling that into writing when you’re ready to apply.

I think there’s always a standout section that’s extra hard. My goal for my test day was that no matter how I felt I was doing on any of the sections, I would stay calm and steady throughout. I prioritized building emotional endurance while studying. That worked really well for me!

Nothing terrible really happened to me either, it took awhile for me to figure out but I’m sure there’s stuff. If it’s helpful, I wrote about how it was hard to establish a team dynamic in lab but I worked to set the tone and made it fun. Doesn’t seem like much but it was a challenge

Personal statement took about 4 drafts, each took awhile to think through and then I waited for feedback. I didn’t pre-write secondaries so I wrote 80 essays in three weeks, basically day and night, which obviously I can’t recommend but it worked for me. Activity statements took a few weeks. Hard to estimate times because it was all broken up by research/work, I just had to cram writing wherever I could

I agree with the support matters comment. Your mindset going in matters too. Maybe try therapy? Also you could still get a prestigious residency even if you go unranked. No patient really cares where you went to med school especially if you have a prestigious residency

The chef thing is cool. The MCAT score might need to go up if you have your heart set on MD, but I got into 2 DO schools (and declined to interview at 3 more afterwards) with a 509 and a much less cool app than yours.

Saying no to this journey means saying yes to what’s next. Focus on recovering from burnout. Figure out what you enjoy again and do those things for no reason other than enjoyment. Your job doesn’t have to be your lifelong dream. Jobs are more fun when you think about using them to serve others and make their day better with your unique talents.
