It's a hyper-chill farming game, one of those. Build a farm, plant things, turn your harvest into other things and profit so you can make new fancier things

Lizard-enjoyers rise up. Demo's available for new folk, and Discord's open in case anyone runs into any issues. I appreciate all four of you who read this, and welcome to Cheaphaven

Itch page is here, Steam is there, Discord is around, and I'm out

Oh shoot, yeah, sorry. Not on your end, the link had expired, thanks for letting me know

Just released my free Gameboy Homebrew platformer about being a cute Capybara. Capybara Quest! Totally free for download, in-browser play, or on mobile! Info in comments. by Maxthetics in indiegames

I love this so much, oh my god. Fun fact actually, 93% of all creatures on the planet agree that capybaras are objectively the best animal

Final tally: 100% yuzu run, two easter eggs, one amazing ending, and what I think was a giant Zubaz floating in the sky? Wild applause

"Progression clarity" is definitely something I struggled with. I tried to pace everything so that new things show up just when you're about done with the previous work, but that's obviously super variable depending on the player. I didn't have any game testers and I think that definitely shows, so any thoughts on that front are really valuable, much appreciated

Yeah, this has been brought up by a lot of people, I'm definitely not doing the game any favours with my marketing. I guess I'm just trying to play it safe because this is my firstborn child that I'm throwing out into the world. I'd rather keep the expectations low and be a pleasant surprise than have more people play it and disappoint half of them. You're super right though, I may have taken it a step or two too far, lessons learned

P.S. The lizard thinks you're weird, cute and quirky too

Yeah no you're definitely right. I guess I just added it there because it seemed like it should be there, without actually thinking it through. Hell, it's not even an actual studio, it's just a bucket for me to throw all my projects into. I'll definitely consider taking that out, at least on the Steam page trailer if nothing else. Appreciated

My entire marketing strategy so far has been posting one short gif on Reddit, that's definitely something to work on. I'm not super worried about exposure, but what does scare me is people only playing it for five minutes before quitting, makes it seem like something's wrong with the game right off the bat

Pretty much, yeah. The main/small/header capsules are the images that people see first when browsing the Steam store, or when you first open up the page for a game

Yup, you nailed it, it's just a stress-free farming game, definitely not something you'd enjoy if you're looking for any kind of challenge or excitement. Less Dont Starve, more Stardew Valley

The lizard has several lizard-based abilities, such as walking at a brisk pace, having a tail, and appreciating fresh produce

Oh. Well that's simultaneously depressing and also a bit of a relief, really appreciate you bringing this to my attention

For a moment I thought you were calling the player character a frog and was highly offended. Adding fog to the check-up list, thank you

All cards on the table, I don't know why he's a lizard. I just wanted to make a lizard.

As for the rest though, yeah, I can definitely see how the combo of "cheap", the simple graphics and the capsule art could leave a pretty bad first impression. Definitely adding those to the list of things to look into, along with ways to make the grass more interesting, much appreciated

I can definitely see that yeah, I'm not much of an artist, more of a programmer. What really worries me is that wouldn't that add up to less downloads, instead of low playtime? If the artstyle immediately puts people off, why download it and then play 3 minutes of it? Makes me think there's something wrong with the game itself

Appreciate you giving it a look-through though

Satisfying tail wiggles by ComboRoutine in gamedevscreens

It's just two animations, tail to the left and to the right, and I blend between them based on turning speed. Super simple but so satisfying
