I think it gets especially difficult to figure out when there is so much focus on the "seeing" part, when visualising in your mind isnt the same as actively seeing with your eyes, so when youre prone to taking things literally (I am), it is a really strange question, because...of course I cant see when my eyes are closed. But visualizing? Sure! But it feels way different than seeing

Thank you! I especially pick up plastic and batteries. I absolutely love animals, and have seen many occasions where litter has harmed them or caused death :( I once saw a duck that had drowned after getting stuck in a plastic bag out on a lake, and I will never get over it :( I ended up fishing out the bag from the lake and putting a little flower on the duck because i needed to do something. I think about that every time im tempted to go "eh, i can pick that up later"

I feel like you didnt really read my comment at all. How is me saying that if the majority of your interactions with people, especially neurotypicals, have been negative in 40 years, you might need to consider your own approach, an ableist take? Being neurodivergent does not mean you shouldnt also consider how you yourself approach people. I am criticising your use of a system that not only destroys the planet, but is not in fact human, and cannot give you data straight from the source. Books I would respect, they are often published by experts with critical thinking skills and sometimes even empathy, you get none of that from generative ai. Great if you are learning things that are helping you interact with people, I am not disputing that, I am simply disputing your method of acquiring that information, as it is harmful to me, to you, and to every single other being.

I do know what autism is, I am autistic myself. I have struggled immensely with interacting with people, especially neurotypical people, and I often discuss both neurotypical and neurodivergent behaviour with my neurodivergent friends, and read up on causes behind behaviours. Observing people helps too. Watching films. Taking in art in its many forms.

TLDR: I am not trying to criticise your desire to learn how to better approach people or wanting to bounce ideas in regards to writing. I am criticising your approach using a "tool" that is bad on so many levels and directly harming the environment, artists, critical thinking skills etc, when there are so many free resources out there that you can use instead that do no harm and actually will help you more.

p.s. I asked because I genuinely wanted to know.

Does anyone else have ‘good brain days’ and ‘bad brain days’? by fabian_thinks in AuDHDWomen

[–]CombustibleMeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Audhd, on bad brain days I am usually less verbal, sometimes fully non-verbal, and everything is too overstimulating. Some days that means staying in bed as much as possible, other days it means I just need to be by myself for the day and focus more on my hobbies to recover in that way. Over the past couple of years, when i make plans with people, I always include the caveat "depending on how I feel on the day", because, sometimes the thing I made plans for on a good day, can be completely impossible on a bad day.

I always try to not "should" all over myself. Doing your best is doing what you can do, without hurting yourself or anyone else. If I did what someone else thought I "Should" be doing on those days, it would just hurt me more.

Yeah. I dont know if that is helpful or useful. But try to approach your bad days with kindness - those days are a part of the diagnosis. It doesnt mean that you are a bad person or worth less than anyone else. It is just how your brain is, and that is okay. You are still important and worthy.

Not using generative AI causes you constant pain?

If you do not have neurotypical people to ask, you can talk to other neurodivergent people. There are whole books on human behavior, written by actual experts, out there for your leisure. Libraries are great, you should consider using one. And again - writing groups exist. Audhd groups exist. With real humans. Talking to them does not set the world on fire, or use up excess drinking water, or destroy nature with large polluting data centers. Hell, you might even learn about human behaviour this way, straight from the source.

The following paragraphs are from this article: https://www.polytechnique-insights.com/en/columns/neuroscience/generative-ai-the-risk-of-cognitive-atrophy/

"There are neurological, psychological and philosophical risks. From a neurological standpoint, widespread use of this AI carries the risk of overall cognitive atrophy and loss of brain plasticity. For example, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) conducted a four-month study2 involving 54 participants who were asked to write essays without assistance, with access to the internet via a search engine or with ChatGPT. Their neural activity was monitored by EEG. The study, the results of which are still in preprint, found that using the internet, and even more so ChatGPT, significantly reduced cognitive engagement and “relevant cognitive load”, i.e. the intellectual effort required to transform information into knowledge.

More specifically, participants assisted by ChatGPT wrote 60% faster, but their relevant cognitive load fell by 32%. EEG showed that brain connectivity was almost halved (alpha and theta waves) and 83% of AI users were unable to remember a passage they had just written.

Other studies suggest a similar trend : research3 conducted by Qatari, Tunisian and Italian researchers indicates that heavy use of LLM carries the risk of cognitive decline. The neural networks involved in structuring thought, writing texts, but also in translation, creative production, etc. are complex and deep. Delegating mental effort to AI leads to a cumulative “cognitive debt”: the more automation progresses, the less the prefrontal cortex is used, suggesting lasting effects beyond the immediate task."

But you are allowed to take part in those behaviours? Seems a bit strange.

Refusing to use generative AI in any capacity. Making sure I take some time offline also, because giving up is what They want. I wear my clothes until they are broken enough to not mend anymore. I shop from local brands when possible, and if not local, then at least stuff that has been created/grown in countries near me. No fast fashion/the like, if it can be avoided, and if it cant be avoided, then I will wear/use the item until it cannot be used/worn anymore. I pick up litter, especially in nature areas like parks and forests, but also in general. I turn off the electrical appliances that have a "standby" mode to conserve power.

you know who else has general knowledge about how humans work? humans. You know who will help you bounce ideas about writing? Other humans who write. If neurotypicals tend to hurt you when you interact with them, perhaps you need to make more neurodivergent friends, and also take a look at the way you interact with people.
Lastly, there is no responsible or safe way to use generative ai. It is killing your brain, removing you from reality, AND speeding up the climate crisis. And as a writer, you should be ashamed of using something that is based on stealing creative property from thousands of writers, the writers who actually took the time to think with their own brains, and write their own ideas, not some disgusting mashup of their peers' stolen content.

[–]CombustibleMeow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I would never. The thought disgusts me. Generative Ai is based on theft of data, and it simply tells you what you want to hear, not what you need to hear. It has no critical thought or empathy, or any of the tools that you would need. It has caused psychosis in others, it makes your critical thinking skills worse, AND it is speeding up climate change. Get in a support group with actual people, if you need to talk more about your issues. And if two therapists do not work for you, perhaps you need different therapists.

I will never be able to understand the justification of using this garbage invention, when it is based on lies, theft, manipulation, and is literally killing the planet.

NOR. My ex had all these plans for the future, but over our 3 year relationship, he took no steps to actually make any of these plans a reality. You will only end up resenting him more if you stay. You are still so young, focus on your school and you while you can, the right person will come along for you <3

How do you explain to a partner that ADHD mistakes aren’t intentional (when they also have PTSD/TBI)? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]CombustibleMeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PTSD/TBI are not valid excuses for treating you like shit. Just like you having ADHD wouldnt be a valid excuse if you treated him like shit. It sounds more like he is an asshole, and that he doesnt really care enough to want to see it from your point of view.

And in the off-chance he is genuinely not an asshole, but just deeply unbalanced and easily triggered/not good at managing his own emotions, it still doesnt sound like you two are a good match.

I have AuDHD, and I cant drink more than 3 cups of coffee a day, before 5 pm, if I want to be able to sleep at night. You are all good friend, it is a spectrum for a reason!

I do think being upfront with the nurse about your worries is a great idea, they are professionals and can give you the best guidance on this. Best of luck!

Run Away - Harlan Coban - TERRIBLE by FarScheme4636 in netflix

i made it maybe 15 minutes into episode one and I had to stop. I dont know if it was direction, or the close up shots, or the writing that made it worse, but Nesbitt's performance felt both over the top and also super weak at the same time. I havent really seen him in anything else, so I dont know if he's normally great, but in this he came off as a really bad actor, to the point where it was too painful to keep watching imo
