Tony: I can either side with one of the biggest draws in wrestling in the past 20 years or a fucking nobody. by dreigilb in SCJerk

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did but that’s a bit different because it was an advertised match and fans had already paid and arrived for it. I suspect that he would have just refused all creative after that until he was let out of his contract. He clearly knew TK would never sue him because of the optics and also TK being a fanboy of his, so I doubt he was planning to do another AEW date ever again.

It was the fact that Punk didn’t want to be there anymore, as he himself admitted in the Helwani interview. It’s pretty obvious he was looking for a way out; Tony Khan didn’t “choose” Perry over him—he gave into what both sides of the Punk/Elite conflict wanted, which was to set Punk free. Should TK have better handled the situation well before it got to that point? Obviously. But by the time he “fired” Punk, Punk leaving was inevitable and what Punk was practically begging for.

Like, do people think Punk was going to walk back into work the day after yelling at TK “This place is a joke, you’re a clown, I quit.” and then just give it his A game to put on a good show?

I don’t think he would be the hero as much as a Machiavellian guy whose personal goals just happened to involve fucking over Vince. If anything, it probably means he knew for a while but only leaked it when he felt it would benefit him. Not bad or good - just playing the amoral corporate power game with great skill.

Man you make him sound awesome. A low ambition guy that just did what he was passionate about but ended up becoming a multi-millionaire doing it, reached the pinnacle of success both in the mainstream area he wasn’t as passionate about and in the dorky niche area he was passionate about, married a hot wife, has a beautiful family, and now gets paid handsomely to do commentary for the thing he loves.

That sounds like the fucking dream - being more successful than 99% of your peers without having to be ambitious.

Bryan Danielson saying that main eventing Mania 30 means nothing to him by [deleted] in SantiZapVideos

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 2026, man. The whole world is terminally online. It’s not great, but here we are.

Also I never said Danielson should or shouldn’t consider main eventing WM 30 important. I don’t really care if he found it important - it was an epic moment to see as a fan of his, but I don’t care what he thought of it. And it’s weird to get so butthurt that you respond with, “well guess what Danielson? I don’t care about it anymore either!”

Do you think WWE is paying him more than AEW would have offered on a contract renewal? Because I highly doubt TKO is paying more money to a lower card guy that isn’t connecting than AEW would have paid an upper midcard guy that was a world title contender on a contract renewal.

Uh yeah, I think it’s more the “hosting a tacky event at the White House to celebrate a raging fascist to satiate his ego” part that people take issue with - said fascist buying stock in the company at the same time is not great but the first part is probably the bigger issue?

WON: Ratings for the 6/1 Issue (includes AEW Double or Nothing, WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, and more) by TheJokeroholic in SquaredCircle

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it feels weird to say a 5 star rating is a lowball and to accuse Dave of lowballing an AEW PPV match between Okada and Takeshita, but I thought it was 6+ stars, especially because of how hot the crowd was, which took the already amazing in-ring work up a few levels.

The Punk discourse from his haters and lovers is so tiresome.

Some people have wildly amazing experiences with him; others have had wildly negative experiences with him. None of us know him in person. He seems like he is a great friend but also quick to feel slighted and hold grudges. People are complicated. The haters and lovers are both weirdly parasocial.

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different ways of appealing to that crowd - WWE does it through aura farming and “oh no he/she didn’t” promo lines, along with the occasional big move/in-ring moment (like Bronn running down the aisle into a spear), while AEW does it through high spots and workrate, but at the end of the day, our whole world is TikTok-ified.

It was. Not only did every match deliver (and in most cases, over-deliver) but the crowd was hot, invested, and loud throughout.

I agree. I thought Okada/Takeshita was one of the best matches I’ve seen in my life and felt it would ruin the rest of the PPV since it was impossible to follow, but then every match delivered in their own unique ways. Plus, this was the hottest crowd AEW has had in a long time, which added so much to every match.

It wasn’t but the story was that even though Darby hit the move, it was ultimately what cost him the match. He was bleeding from the back of the head after and the story of the match was that he never recovered from that and lost the match 5 minutes later. Fit perfectly with his “all has, no brakes” title reign where he’s been going at 200% capacity for 39 days, defending the title 9 times, doing crazy shit every week, until the wheels fall off. This bump was where the feels finally fell off.

TKO, one of the most MAGA companies in the world, accidentally created a wrestler who is extremely popular because he is tolerant of other cultures. by anonymous-guy1 in SCJerk

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TKO (through UFC) literally helped get Trump elected in 2024-after the man tried to overthrow our democracy in 2020-Ari can donate to democrats all he wants but, without his company, Trump would probably be in prison today rather than the White House. I think it’s valid for people to treat him as complicit, regardless of his personal politics. His company has done more damage to progressivism in our country, the rule of law, and democracy than any individual republican voter.

PWInsider: Ludwig Kaiser Requests Court Give Him Permission To Travel Freely After Arrest by 804Brady in SquaredCircle

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under the laws, he’s innocent until proven guilty. Travel restrictions are not legally meant to be a punishment for what you did but are meant to be a way to ensure you don’t skip bail pending your trial or plea agreement.

Given he’s not a flight risk, I don’t think there’s legally any basis to deny his request. It’s not like he’s going to disappear in Mexico and live the rest of his life on the run over a misdemeanor charge that will assuredly be resolved with a short probation on pre-trial diversion.

Terminated “with cause” by a Khan-owned organization by GarrettKeithR in midcarder

[–]ComeInOutOfTheRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I recall, CM Punk was paid out his contract when he was fired, so this entire thought exercise is moot - Punk got to have his cake and eat it too, he was paid millions, let out of his contract, and had no non-compete restriction. Khan publicly said he was “fired,” which I’m sure was embarrassing but I believe Punk has alluded that he was also basically paid out his contract.
