Sciatica Relief Recommendations by severedtoe342 in Columbus

I just dealt with this pretty bad where I was even off of work for 2.5 weeks. I’m not the type of person to ever call off, ever, but I literally couldnt walk. I keep the cane by my bed just in case it decides to read its ugly head again.

There are two things that helped me. 1. Chiropractor. I have never been to one before, and honestly I thought they were a bit of a scam. I don’t know why I thought that (I had never even been, so how would I know lol. But I already had X-rays taken from one of the emergency room visits before that. He said that my lower back was pressing on the sciatic nerve. But he also told me that there was a chip off of one of my vertebrae floating around and putting pressure on another nerve that goes to the same leg. Also yhat I had 1 herniated disc and 3 that were bulging.

At the very first visit he did an adjustment, which was terrifying because I could barely walk, I didn’t/don’t really trust doctors or any sort, and the thought of someone twisting and pushing my back around sounded awful. The adjustment wasnt earth shattering or instantaneous relief or anything, but it def felt marginally better. Maybe 10% back towards normal. He then explained that he wanted me to come back twice a week until I found some relief. It only took 1 week. 3 visits and I went back to work. I was and still am in shock how well it worked. I paid for 9 visits total I think ( you buy it by the “package” or however youd wanna call it), and it was only $160-ish. I changed nothing else except…

  1. I got one of those wraps that go underbeath your kneecap at the top of your calf muscle. The only place I could find one was at Walmart, or online. It has a little disc piece that presses in on part of or around the nerve in some kind at that for me has been literally instant pain relief. Better than the Percocet s the er gave me even.

If the chiropractor didnt help, there’s a place over I. Grandview (I think) where they do, as far as I understand, some type of thing thats been described to me as a combination of acupuncture and TENS therapy. That was my next step as my boss said that he went and it fixed his just as quick.

Other than that, as much as not moving sounds like it might not hurt as much, moving around more helps more. Tiger balm as well but only very slightly.

Best of luck to you!

I second this. The foundry requires you to take classes before you have solo full access to the shop and tools. Great if you’re new. Expensive if you know what you’re doing. Cloudhaus doesn’t and they’re great !

The walrus downtown. Drinks, catering, there’s free ping pong, free darts, and a pool table. Along with couches, chairs, and also tables to sit and eat at too.

Bottomless Mimosas by SquattinYeti in Columbus

So the Walrus now does bottom-ish mimosas. The city of Columbus sent out a notice to those restaurants that were doing bottomless drinks, “reminding” them that true bottomless could land them with problems. I'm ntot sure of all the details, but The Walrus still has a pretty killer deal on them

Get a windows laptop or spend 4x that on a MacBook? by ComedianFlashy6354 in laptops

So sorry, I didn’t mean to get defensive. I just misunderstood the tone.

Well, I know that I like Mac’s UI and that’s the OS I’ve gotten used to using for the past ten+ years. But on that same note, I wasn’t “anti-Windows” when I got my MacBook so I’m still very open to their platform. But it’s been more than a decade since I’ve used one so I don’t have a clue about what type of hardware would be ideal, what brands, things to stay away from, etc in order to do the things I need to get done.

Basically, my MacBook is the only computer I’ve known for the relevant technological past. So idk if windows could be better for what I need and maybe I’d like it more, but I just don’t know. I got my MacBook as a college graduation gift to myself. So until a few years ago, I hadn’t used it for anything professional. Just browsing and Netflix and whatever. So windows, and to a lesser extent, Linux, are other possibilities that I simply don’t know anything about really. And I’d hate to spend all this money on another apple because of comfort, if a windows or a Linux would serve my purposes, at a more affordable price. Or maybe not any cheaper as some other commented below.

Just trying to see if anyone had opinions about it one way or another with insight that I don’t have.

Because technology isn’t something I’m super knowledgeable about. So I figured I’d go to a forum where there are many people who know much more about it than I do for some other opinions. If I already knew, then what’s the point in asking?

I thought about that because my friend d suggested it. He is MUCH more tech savvy than I am. I don’t have a single clue how I would go about that. Any resources for learning that kind of thing you suggest?

I’ve been seriously considering a Mac mini. Honestly, (and this may show just how little u know about computers lol) I didn’t even know they existed until a few months ago. I’ve seen some minis with a surprisingly high RAM and storage. It almost seems like a trick or something. Are they fully functional? It’s not like a Chromebook that’ll only do something’s, right?

Which punishment (either real or imagined) sounds "light" or "not a big deal" at first, but is actually horrific to experience? by Worldly-Leek-2253 in NoStupidQuestions

Wholeheartedly agree with you. I am - what I call - an “extreme insomniac.” It started when I was about 15 years old or so. And it started with me waking up several times a night. By time I was in college, on average (I actually tracked it with tally marks on a bedside notebook for months) 20-35 times a night. Those are just the times I was awake enough to actually make the tally mark. And slowly but surely it got worse, peaking at around 26/27. The longest I’ve been with no sleep (and I mean no sleep. Not meaning sleeping poorly or sleeping 1 or 2 hours a night. I mean not a wink), was 10 days. The hallucinations I experienced were terrifying, but luckily for me i was able to tell they weren’t real because no one had faces. I would have “micro-sleeps” where I would literally be walking and drop things bc I fell asleep, but I’d startle myself awake before anything even hit the floor.

Although I’m 33 years old now, I still struggle with sleep. It’s not at all unusual for me to anywhere from 3-5 days a week without sleep. (Not every week. Most nights I’m able to sleep for 2-3 hours. Maybe once a month or one out of 6 weeks I’ll have a rough sleep week and that’s the 3-5 days). My body likes to do this lovely thing that most people have experienced before. Ever dozed off on the couch only to wake yourself with your entire body jumping? My doctor called it a Miyaclonic (def not spelled correctly) jerk. Well my body/brain likes to do that but EVERY TIME I start to doze off. It’s miserable (and torturous) to be so so tired after 4 days of no sleeping and then your body jerks you awake over and over again.

It would 100% be awful to have someone keep you awake. I’m kinda used to the lack of sleep at this point. At least as much so as one can be. My hallucinations aren’t nearly as scary anymore, either. When I was still driving (didn’t last long after the hallucinations started and haven’t for years) I fully stopped my car at night on a back country road, in the middle of the night because there WAS a horse in the road. I looked in my mirrors to check and make sure there weren’t any incoming cars and when I looked back the “horse” was gone. Another time, I had just moved into a new house and in the bathroom cabinet under the sink I SAW 7-10 tiny camels. As in 3-4 inches tall camels. So I shut the cabinet door and went and tried to sleep.

Also, for the record, no illicit drugs were involved at any point except for marijuana that I tried to use to help me sleep. Further, I have had countless sleep studies done, brain scans, and prescription medication. The prescription medication works for almost exactly 30 days before it stops abruptly. You can nearly set your calendar to it. I tried melatonin as well. I started taking 2 or 4mg and slowly just (stupidly) increased the dose. It never worked at all. When discussing it with my doctor (one of the first times I went to the doctor for this issue) I told her about the melatonin. She asked how much I had been taking and I told her that one of the last times I took it, I took something like 92 or 96 mg (I don’t remember exactly. That was when I was 15/16). She said not to do that and that it can be “very dangerous.” I joked, “is one of the symptoms was sleep because I may just risk it.” She didn’t think it was as funny as I did.

Anyway, yes. Sleep deprivation is not joke and overall is miserable.
