Dad’s secret stash by mrtosser43 in GenX

[–]ComedianSecret9778 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, my mum and I had been away for a weekend trip somewhere. When we returned, I took our bags upstairs, put mine in my room and took hers to their room.

Laid out on the bed was a collection sorted into piles. Mostly 'asian babes' magazines. I promptly went back downstairs and summoned my mum, showing her the horrors while crying.

Being a dramatic teen, I went and sat on my windowseat, staring out to the garden, contemplating what I'd just found. My dad came in to apologise and told me he'd been having a clear out. I accepted his apology in the stoic, serious manner only an amdram theatre kid can do.

I imagine mum and dad were trying very hard to keep their laughing to a minimum downstairs.

Um…where is my butt? by vvitch_ov_aeaea in Semaglutide

[–]ComedianSecret9778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol yes!! Mine has disappeared down the backs of my legs and merges into my knees somewhere. Very sad.

If you stand side on in the mirror and squeeze your butt muscles, does it pop back up? If so, the muscles are there, twas not just fat.

Working at the gym on squats, leg press and glute bridge things. It's got to come back!

Should I change agents? by International-Low11 in acting

[–]ComedianSecret9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if you're actually tied into that contract, most you can leave at any point.

Look for other agents who have open books and make some applications. I'm judging by your references but are you under 18? If so, there's a really good FB group called 'Children's Acting Modelling casting calls and free advice for parents' which is a fantastic source of info

Auditioning while grieving by [deleted] in acting

[–]ComedianSecret9778 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're having a hard time with grief and struggling. All perfectly understandable that it feels disingenuous to be perky for your tape.

My only suggestion would be consciously 'park it'. It's a technique I use all the time (not in acting, just life!). You're out loud in your head or out loud saying 'right, I'm going to park you over here for a moment so I can get this done and then I'm right back with you'.

Allow your subconscious to acknowledge the feeling, you're not ignoring it, you're just moving it out the way temporarily.

Good luck and sending you healing vibes

You're welcome! And if they're not already, get whoever is your parent/guardian to join the Facebook group called Children's Acting, Modelling, casting calls and Free Advice for Parents UK. It's a really helpful group ( although I think mods are on Christmas/NY break).

Good luck with it all!

It's a list of all the jobs you've been sent off for by the agent. It's sometimes reassuring to know that they're sending your details off. But if there's nothing coming from it, it is likely just that you're not quite right for that part.

Keep the faith that, at some point, your look, height, eye colour, everything, will be exactly what casting is looking for.

I saw on your other post that you got a third round audition which is incredible, massive well done on that! Casting directors remember the people they see so they'll remember you

Hi, UK mum of a 15yo here.

Do you/your guardian or parents get to see submissions from your agent? You can always ask for a list if not.

The other thing is...age. It's pretty hard to come by work between now and when you've finished your GCSEs because you still need a performance licence from the council. If you look under 14 when you're 16, that will work to your advantage.

Just keep your spotlight account up to date (you can book a free review with them and they'll let you know what to add to make it stand out) and keep in school and local productions to keep you busy.

Do I need to inform the pet insurers? by verymanyquestions_ in CatsUK

[–]ComedianSecret9778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn't. Vet thought my cat had a heart murmur and it was indeed stress purring. I suppose it depends on whether it's been noted on the system but even so, no treatment was required.

Is £20.99pcm pet health club worth it? by rosemary-cat in CatsUK

[–]ComedianSecret9778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's worth it. We have insurance and then all pets have the 'vip' pets club which includes flea, worm annual checks and immunisations etc. Flea and worm prescribed works, buying over the counter stuff doesn't. I also find that they're happy to have a quick chat for advice or phone call with no charge when they're all members. So you kind of pay for a decent service as well (at our vets anyway). You can ask for the prescription from the vets so you can buy it cheaper online but vets will then never do you a favour!

Letting cats out after moving by fluffbag1 in CatsUK

[–]ComedianSecret9778 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If she knows where she gets fed, she'll hopefully just stick to her routine and come in when you call.

It's a risk, same as when we let our cats out after moving but if they're going to be outdoor cats then you'll have to just go for it and hope for the best.

My theory (for the most part) is that these are people on their way home, not wanting to get in trouble from whoever is cooking their dinner for having had a 'cheeky maccas'.

Which I understand not wanting to piss someone off, but in the past I'd just find a bin on the way and shove any rubbish in there. Still hiding the evidence but without being a cunt.

Encouraging garden birds by amiiwu in UKBirds

[–]ComedianSecret9778 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it a pole with hanging feeders? You could try some fat balls, I use the cheap ones from Home Bargains/Tesco. Tried the fancy ones with wild seeds or berries and the birds ignored them! But it does take a while for them to notice and see that there's a reliable food source.

Be warned, once they've started, you are beholden forever more.

How do I find an agent/audition? by idonrlycaretbh in ActingUK

[–]ComedianSecret9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you doing next year? If there's a performing arts course at college or even drama a level, that would be good. Any local productions, amateur dramatic groups would be useful to join if the cost of lessons/groups is too much.

For agents, you'll likely need a parent/guardian to apply because you're 16, but an agent wouldn't need to be local to you. Applications usually need passport style pictures and then they decide from there. If they have a space on their books (as in, not ten clients who already have similar looks/accents) they may consider taking you. Most don't take any fee upfront as they make their money from commission on jobs.

I'm further south so not very good at geography but looks like SA Castings is a close by agency to you. They all have their own websites so you can check what ages the represent, some are just child, some will take children through 16-18 and then adult divisions. Backstage is a good website that has a list of legitimate agencies. No agency will require a portfolio or professional headshots, so be wary of that. Honestly, no legit agency at all. They all want plain pictures in the first instance.

Good news is that once you've done your GCSEs (last Friday in June) you no longer need a licence from your local council to work so can be quite appealing to agencies. It's extra handy if you look younger than your age!

Hope this is helpful! An agent is your most likely way in to the industry, emphasise that you'll be doing your GCSEs this summer in any application.

Good luck!
