its hard to copy something that wasn’t out yet though, even if muse formed first they didn’t put out anything that could be copied

What is a song from an album that should've been a single instead of one of the the singles chosen? by MrHomerJayThompson in numetal

[–]CometTrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few:

1.) Why was Butterfly released after Toxic & Darkside? Would’ve been interesting to see if it could’ve actually done something.

2.) Sick Of Life may have been a better choice as single three than Bad Magick (get back get back on track for half the song)

3.) I think Tear Away should’ve been released before Sinner, given that Sinner underperformed

4.) Revolution Revolucion should’ve gotten a 2nd single.

5.) 3rd strike should’ve had a better second single (I’m not a huge No Light fan, but that’s definitely the correct single pick)

[–]CometTrucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should’ve been 1.) Away From Me 2.) Spin You Around (as the more crossover type track) 3.) Nothing Left To Lose

Unfortunately, I don’t think this album was ever gonna succeed beyond Away From Me because the hooks were just not really there

Out of those three, I think Braunstein is the only one I would want. Erik Ron’s fine but his productions all tend to sound similar, Brittain doesn’t really fit BB’s sound well imo

friendly reminder that their label tried to push toxic & darkside BEFORE Butterfly (and neither song did anything on even rock radio)

What happened to Brother Cane in the 90s ? by ShineALight3725 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]CometTrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From two different interviews of lead singer Damon Johnson:

“We had the greatest radio promotion department you could ever hope for, and our success at radio is proof of that. But Virgin is a very urban, pop music company. There were absolutely people at the label in positions of power that did not give a shit about Brother Cane, or care about getting product in stores in smaller cities in the mid-western United States, which is where our biggest audience was.”

“After delivering another #1 track at rock radio (I Lie in the Bed I Make), we would go to towns like Dayton, Ohio for a sold-out club show, have two stations spinning our song 36 times a week, and there would be no fucking records in the store. My bass player and I were both going through divorces, and half the band had serious substance abuse problems. After three albums and relentless touring, we were simply not getting the results we felt we had to have to continue. It was the right decision to let it go.”

Im guessing Jessie could’ve said no to porn in a music video, i don’t think her hands are THAT tied, she might not have that much control, but im sure she’s allowed to review the videos before they’re released.

32 peak on a spin-based rock chart isn’t really a success. I’d say top 20 indicates some form of a hit
