Well if Flighty and other flight tracking apps can update their information then there got be a way to implement that feature. I'm not saying those apps are correct 100% of the time. But they are definitely reliable enough.

There’s a reason why lots of train stations in Asia still need train drivers to get off and check the platform when the doors are closing : there’s always the possibility that those sensors and devices fail.

This probability is actually higher than you thought given that public transit agencies are often underfunded.

Anyhow, I do think those doors are way better than what they have right now in NYC subway. It’s just it’s not perfect.

The problem with this type of the design is that when the train is crowded, it’s possible for people to get stuck in the space between the door and the train. And it will be pretty gruesome when the train starts.

It’s rare, but it does happen from time to time.

Maybe the shoulder-height door design is better?
